I remember the draft day in 2007, Max Pacioretty's NHL comparable was Erik Cole. I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment, although I think Cole is a bit more aggressive.
Cole is more physical, Pacioretty a better playmaker. I think Cole could help him next year too because he acme back from an injury smilar to Max.
Yeah, sign a guy for 6 years and trade him 1 season later - that really makes you popular with players/agents around the league.
Then people will whine more when the Habs can't sign anyone on UFA day.
Popularity doesn't matter. $$$ is what matters.
Did Jagr give a **** about how supposedly Philly was mean and traded away Carter and Richards after they signed long term sweet heart deals? No, he turned down his long lost love in Pittsburg for their sworn enemy in Philly for an extra MILLION DOLLARS.
His avlue is only 30-40% in goals and points...most of his value will be in creating space and bringing a physical presence to Cammy and Pleks, plus driving the net.

AK should have been signed to a 2 year deal if not 3. Now we lost him next year or pay him $5m. Cole, Laich and Leino all got $4.5m after he signed and he'll have more points than all 3 of them next year.
Even if AK isn't a part of our future, you sign him longer and trade the asset instead of letting it walk away.
Same thing with Wiz, we could afford the $0.75m extra that CBJ gave him. Then we could have traded him next year for a legit top 6 forward. You don't throw away assets to save a dollar or two now like NYI. You spend now and reap the rewards later.
Just because we signed two contracts today, doesn't make us in the elite spenders of the league.
What the heck are you really trying to argue here???
Did you even think about what you're saying before you posted this?
You're saying AK should have gotten more or longer, but we got him for cheaper, and you're using that to argue we're cheap??? Huh??? The kid signed!
Wiz wasn't re-signed because Markov was favored. How about the Markov did hey? 3y at 5.75M for a player that's played 7games in almost two years??? Ya, we're dirt cheap!
I can't believe people are still trying to argue this. This is utterly ridiculous.
What about MaxPac or even Weber? We certainly could have saved a few thousand dollars there, why didn't we? Some stupid reason?
The Molson family just spent half a billion to buy the team, but hey, they want to save 750K and that's why they didn't re-sign Wiz. Are you hearing yourself now?
If the Habs were cheap and wanted to save money, they would trade away players and bring their salaries down close to the floor, not the ceiling. You make absolutely no freaking sense.
I guess I'm the only one....but I really don't get the Hannan love lately.....This guy was so much a no-show since a long time now.
Besides, did I see correctly or do we have 7 d-men in our roster as of now? Why do people expect us to ship Spacek aside from being a wish? What if the Habs believes in having a vet in Spacek?

Agreed. I was interested in Hannan back when he was a UFA and signed with the Avs like 4 years ago...he's pretty painfully average now IMO. Lost a step in a big way.
And yeah aside from Gorges, I don't think we should be looking at any more D-men. Time to live with the fact that Spacek is staying and that's that.

I share the same opinion as you. I really would not like us to get Hannan.

I agree. The last time he was great was in SJ before the lockout. He slowed down considerably since joining the Avs, and then the Caps.
Instead of getting him, I'd rather get depth players, like say O'brien and Stewart or Gagné if he comes cheap. If we're going to throw higher dollars at a Dman, might as well be Kaberle.

Man you sound a little foolish. I suggest you stop
