I have remained fairly unbiased throughout this whole thing starting at the trade deadline. I would have liked him then at the right price, but wasn't upset that Sather showed restraint. Same situation now. Worried about the team next year if we don't get some upgrades on the top line though.
I think we may need to make this move moreso now then before.

Basically every team in the EC has gotten better and we haven't really, so we need this to really not only keep up with the rest of the EC, but even exceed them in some regard.

They've got a little upwards of $16m to play with, still have to re-sign some of their RFAs, most notable of which is Drew Doughty. But yeah, with a little bit of maneuvering and depending on the structure of the contract, they could absolutely fit him in.

That's because both teams (Calgary Toronto) are flawed. And places he's not interested in playing at.

At some point you just have to walk away. Of course it will suck, but at the end of the day you need to do what's best for the team. And remember, while BR is a great player, it's not like he's a kid. I have no doubt he'll be an excellent hockey player for 2 or 3 years, perhaps a bit longer...but by all accounts we're talking about 6 to 9 year deals here. That's always a risky proposition. I'm hopeful Brad will come to NY for a bit less money, but ultimately that's up to him.

Florida got better.
Buffalo got better.

Philly got worse no matter who they got in the trades and who they signed today. It wont make up for the loss of richards and carter. Not this year maybe not for a couple years.

Other than that, not really impressed by other EC moves.

I do think sather should up the ante

Hello Ranger fans, hope you guys had as much fun today as we did!

Hopefully after the next few days we will go back to being friends because I have been hating you guys for the past couple months because of B.Richards.

But I still...kind of like the Rangers...

Keep in mind, the Rangers didn't deliver the high bid on Wade Redden either (Columbus did), but we still "won" his services!

Maybe Yzerman read too much into the comments that BR didn't want to handcuff his new team salary cap wise

Don't think they should up their offer either.

But I still think we need this and it's harder to shrug it off that we can't afford it.

I really think Lombardi is finally going to get his big Free Agent. I know Richards has said he doesn't like the travel but they probably offered him one of Bruckheimer's private jets for the length of his contract or something.

This happened last year too. On paper, sure - the teams may look better, it's what happens in play that matters. Chemistry, locker room dynamics, etc. all play a factor. It's equally refreshing as it is nerve-racking to see the Rangers NOT spend an exorbitant amount of money on July 1st for a change, haha.

Just read a report from a German site that thinks Drury is a candidate to sign with HC Lugano. Man, that would be pretty pathetic.

That's illegal. Can't drop by more than 50% from one year to the next.

I'm still hoping for....12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 2 with NO NMC in years 6-8. That would be a 6.75M annual cap hit. Guess one can dream, right?
