Was there not a report earlier stating the Rangers could match any offer? Why not start low then

He wouldn't be a 3rd liner in LA one of the 3 would go wing.

Sather has probably pointed out the various terrible contracts to UFA's and how it has ruined their careers. Drury, Gomez, Redden, Commodore, etc. He has probably used those players to show him that while it is great to be paid accordingly, you don't want to be OVERPAID because it will come back to bite you in the ass. Its not ALL about the money.

he'd have to get paid a LOT to go to calgary

Folks...indications suggest the Rangers are still the frontrunner, but make no mistake about it, the Calgary Flames are in the hunt.

With the way the bids seem to shake out right now, i think the rangers already have sights on a plan B. Perhaps a trade for Stastny?

But did it really come back to bite any of them in the ass? Gomez is still playing and earning his fat paycheck. The same was true for Drury up until this week, and he just got paid millions not to play. And yeah, Redden might not be living the life riding the bus in the AHL...but I bet he has no problems picking up the tab at dinner. So perhaps you meant to say that you don't want to be overpaid because it will come back to bite Sather in the ass?

Sounds like he's trying to use Calgary's offer to drive the price up for us, imo.

Call his bluff. No way he wants to end up in Calgary.

A forward dealt or bought out?

Not a lot of good options there. If Avery is a Richards draw, then the only guys i'd be pleased with moving out for space would be Wolski and Christensen. And Wolski is the only one who'd fetch us any space.

Sather isn't dumb enough to lose Dubi/cally/AA, is he?

Just curious, what are the Vegas odds on Calgary winning the cup this year? Ok then.

I almost feel like BR has decided on the rangers and is taking is time out of respect towards the other organizations making it seem like he has seriously considered their offeres since they made hour presentations.

Why is Spector going on a Calgary radio station later? Planning on rubbing it in their faces?

I wouldn't be surprised, he seems like that type of person.

I think he means other teams will seek to trade or will buyout players worth looking into. Maybe.

So Calgary is the highest bidder?

Richards' camp is dangling #Flames offer to serious contenders. I highly doubt he actually signs in Calgary though.. a milking effort likely

No. Teams have shown an ability to bury a player.

Huet
Commodore
Souray
Redden
Nylander

Komisarek has been getting ripped apart in Toronto.
Drury got ripped apart in NYC.
Horcoff was getting ripped apart in Edmonton for a long while.
Gomez gets ripped apart in Montreal.

All of these players were signed as UFA's.

And I am sure there are more who I just can't think of right now....
