Sure but 4 years. Seriously have to get to cap or not that is BAD. 1.75M$ would been acceptable but 2.75.. Jeebus
his playoff performance which im sure his agent brought up is what got him a raise. I think tampa would have signed him at 1.75 but i dont think he was looking for that
At this rate how are our prospects even going to get into the lineup?
Well I'm looking it more as the prospects will get more time to develop in the minors and not be rushed into the fire and expected to produce right away.
I don't know, but we have a glut of wingers now and no toughness. Our top six is pretty small. Somebody has to be moved i'm thinking. Something's up.
Me too. I was fine after Fleish but wow Bergenheim? A lot of money too. DT has to be up to something at center. All these wingers like you said. Who knows what's happening.
Surge!! You guys are going to love him. If he can keep up anything close to his playoff performance, he'll really help your team out. Plus I'll get to see him play more.

Well I hope we can trade away some of these overpaid guys in a couple years but that's not necessarily easy. I mean look at this...
Flash(4 years)-Weiss(2 years but he likely extends)-Versteeg(1 year but he'll be a RFA)
Upshall(4)-Santo(TBD)-Dadonov(young guy)
Booth(4)-Goc(3)-Kopecky(4)
Bergy(4)-Matthias(young guy)-Skille(1 year, maybe likely to move)

The lengths aren't staggered enough, imo. Too many guys come up in four years. This four year thing worries me long term.
Just a Habs fan dropping by cause this is the place to be today, haha.. but why are people so worried about contract $$$? Its not like the Panthers are likely to come anywhere near the cap floor whatsoever - so it's not really a big deal, is it?

It's just that we have a lot of good prospects and not much room to bring them up in the next year or two with all these longterm overpaid contracts. But yes, for this year, any Panther fan not happy with this lineup is insane.

I think it's a good thing they aren't coming up. Let them keep getting more experience in the minors. This is what we have needed for such a long time.
I think us Panther fans for the first time can say we have NHL TALENT on all 4 lines. Something we haven't had in a long time. This is the way it should be.

There are a few things to consider.
First off, the cap will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. In 2 years, i don't think we'll be having a ton of cap issues, at all.
Secondly, even though these guys are somewhat overpaid (some moreso than others) they're all very serviceable players. They all have some sort of positive role that they can fill on a team, and it's not all "leadership and experience." There's always a team that needs a Goc, or Bergenheim. I don't see a problem with dumping the guys that will eventually get replaced as our vast prospect pool shifts into gear.
This is the definition of a transition team. Depending on how things play out, we could be challenging for a playoff spot come March/April. If we make the playoffs, great. If not, it should be an excellent year, and our prospects aren't being rushed into the lineup -- something we've absolutely failed at over the past 10 years. The purpose of this offseason was depth, and we definitely bought that for ourselves. I'm very happy. Not just for this year, but also for the future.
