If that's the case..then let him go..I want Richards. But that it too much.

Man, I really want Sather to call the buff and get Richards on a really good contract.

At the same time, I don't want to lose Richards.

Thank god I'm not Sather right now.

Calgary upset we took Erixon off their hands and signed him easily.

I think if sather offers around 6-7 years BR will take his offer over Feaster's.

If that is the case, then either Sather can call the bluff and get him for the correct contract, or will cave and sacrifice some extra cash. That is what, based on the scattered info we have received, I THINK is going on here.

That is why NYR are privileged with last "Match our best offer" rights

That is why Richard's camp is dangling Calgary's reported 9 year, 63 million offer.

That is why every indication so far is that Richards's frontrunning team is the Rangers.

Maybe the teams that are "out" got a sniff of what was going on, and decided to not waste their time.
But that's what I'm saying. For all we know, they are bluffing, but I'd rather play it safe and get this guy in a Blueshirt. Give him 6 or 7 years with a 7 mil cap hit. I'd rather play it safe than ASSUME he is bluffing and get disappointed.

Your feeling right there is why the Rangers were in such a difficult cap situation with Drury, Gomez and Redden. If the player wants to play in NYC, then give him a very solid offer, negotiate, but you have to have a ceiling.
I guarantee you that the contract is probably heavily frontloaded in the first 3-4 years.

If in his final couple of years he's putting up 35-40 points and only makes 3-3.5 mill then I can live with that everyday of the week and twice on Sunday if we get him for the rest of his quality years.

If he really needs the extra ****ing dollar then let him play for the Calgary frickin Flames.... Stuff like this makes me hate sports sometimes. Everything is about squeezing every dollar you can get your hands on.

If Richards goes to Calgary it is solely for the money. After the parade of free agents that have come through NY solely for the money, I'm fine if he ends up in Calgary.

That being said, there is no way he wants to play in Calgary and is probably just trying to get an extra year out of Slats.

Cerny has been gone for a while, he is just writing up the press release. It will be up at 10 P.M. tonight, that's my guess lol.

Well if that was all we had to do then i'd be fine with it. But this 7 mil cap hit for 9 years deal I'm a bit more caddy on.

That's a $7 million dollar cap hit. What are the odds he actually finishes that contract? It's probably frontloaded. That is NOT too much by any means.

Even if it stops the Rangers from signing, say Tyler Ennis who has become an 80 point dynamite winger?

Its great that he will be making less money, but the Rangers will never care how much real dollars they are spending, they will spend to The Cap. 7.1 million on The Cap is 7.1 million on The Cap

Anyone here appreciate Gaborik a bit more now for not asking for an 11 year deal to get a few extra dollars?

Clearly they need something to talk about on MSG+ later tonight on HNL.

Not talking about Rupp for an hour

With that said, if we were ever to lose Brad to a team I would be fine with Calgary. A bad team that we hardly ever see. Spite the leafs fans.

C'mon Brad. Playing for the Rangers is like having 6 extra home games, plus easy trips to Philly, DC and Boston. Much better than stepping on a plane for every single road game.

You need to also look at it from the athlete's perspective for a second. Guys like Dolan and Sather are getting rich off these guys sitting in a pressbox, and they don't have a limited window to make their money.

Richard's has been a great player in the league and it's his time to get his 2nd and last big contract. I have no problem with him trying to get his money's worth.

You act like we're the Florida Panthers and Richard's is pushing us to the verge of bankruptcy.

Folks...indications suggest the Rangers are still the frontrunner, but make no mistake about it, the Calgary Flames are in the hunt.
