what was the point of a lock-out again?

This is like the perfect storm of television money and a crop with a ton of mid level free agents. That's the only way this could've happened.

Get yo money, Ville.

I'm glad the Flyers didn't cave and overpay him to that degree. $3m would've been fair, $3.5m would have been an overpayment, and $4.5m is a massive overpayment.

I'll always have a special place in my heart for Ville, as he was a major part of that amazing run to the Finals... but he seemed to disappear for long stretches this past season, and his patience was beautiful at times but frustrating at others.

Good player, good personality, great beard. Good luck.

reality, we got jagr for 1.2 million less. this kinda makes that signing ok. Theres no way jagr can score less than 50 points this year if hes healthy.

BUF makes him their #2 center and he replaces $4M always-hurt or invisible Tim Connolly. The deal looks good for them if you look at it that way from their perspective.

Congratulations to Ville on his UFA lottery jackpot.

He's not a center though and will get moved back to wing IMO.

Holy mother of overpayment. Way to go, Ville. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Be honest here, did you guys see enough last season that would make you comfortable with him at center?? I hate the signing because I think he isn't an NHL caliber center. In the press conference Lindy was talking how on the Briere line in the offensive zone, he played like the center on that line. I don't know what to think. If he can play center and put in 60 points then it may turn into a good signing. If we are forced to move him back to wing then it is stupid. So, tell me the truth, did you guys see ANYTHING that made you think that he could control the center of the ice for the rest of his career?? Thanks.

No, I really don't think so at all. It's not that great of a signing...

If he's played at center you're going to be disappointed.

I was really hoping we'd keep Leino, but at this price we made the right choice. Still he was one of my favorites, but a lot of them seem to be leaving these days.

Not that he was the center position but he acted like the center in the offensive zone. I watched the vid and this is what he said. "In Philly's system he was the guy down low in the Hartnell-Briere line. Ville strength is hanging on to puck and that fits our system with the D an joining the rush. Buys the extra seconds and has very good sideways movement. Gets in paint to score dirty goals."
