Who's the third goalie? With G and V as the top 2, he's almost certainly going to see quite a bit of playing time.

Where did you see that? If that's true, that's a great deal.

If they both stay healthy and happy, it's a major upgrade, but 2 injury prone goalies is a little scary - especially since they traded their 1st in 2012. I hope Lake Erie (still Avs AHL team?) has a good goalie.

Honestly, if Varlamov could take some of things out of Giguere's game and play a calmer, quieter style, I think he will be lights out. He needs a little more challenge and a little bit less frenetic athletic jumping around and he could be really outstanding.

Huge drop in pay from Giguere, but he has not played well at all lately.

He could be a good veteran presence, but I did not like his attitude at times with the Leafs.

His groin/sports hernia has been corrected. He's only 34 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the Avalanche's starter.

Quality person, great team player and a fantastic guy in the locker room.

Good signing for the Avs.

This makes the Varly signing a bit less risky. If Varly starts struggling there is the potential Giggy can take the reins, or at least split time 50/30. The Avs really pushed Andy that one year, he seemed fatigued.

Nice to see Giggy get a job somewhere. Always has been one of my favorite players. He could be one of the steals of the UFA period if he stays healthy. Nice deal for the Avs.

He was pretty bad last season, looked completely done, but he was apparently struggling with groin injuries, which killed his lateral mobility. If he's healthy he's probably a very good backup, but if his groin is still giving him problems and he plays like he did last season, then he'll be worse than Brian Elliott was.

Giggy is a great guy but Avs fans should be hoping that the surgery he had this summer cures not only his groin problem but his penchant for letting in weak goals.

I had high hopes for Giggy last year -- unfortunately he didn't make one come true.

I like seeing rage and passion out of my goaltenders, especially after seeing Anderson's "Eh...whatever" attitude towards losing. Varlamov stated that he wanted to be a number one, I know Giguere's a pretty competitive guy...I like who we've got in net right now.

I'm sure you didn't like seeing your goaltender duck out of the way of a shot though.

Sorry, every time I hear about Giggy, I always remember back to that particular game... that was a pretty fun night at the X, one that sticks in the memory.

This. Leafs fans were hard on him. He was awful and s l o w, but that could all change and Avs might have gotten a great deal
