Brad Richards is off the market. The big fish among this year's crop of free agents has reportedly agreed to a nine-year contract Saturday to play for the New York Rangers.

TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting Richards' deal has an average annual value of $6.5 million.

Arguably the biggest prize in free agency is off the market.

Brad Richards has chosen to play with the New York Rangers and will agree to a nine-year deal for $58.5 million.

#Rangers. Apparently Richards left some money on the table and took less money to sign in Broadway. #NHL news.

Rangers did exactly what they said they wouldn't do, get into a bidding war and give an excessive deal.
Brooksie = an ass. What would've been a "cheap" deal, Larry?

EDIT: and it turns out it's actually $6.33 AAV?!?!?! That's pretty much down at what I had as the no-brainer level. Go jump in a lake, Brooksie.

Excessive deal?

If the Sabres can give Christian ****ing Erhoff a 10 year deal to get the cap hit to 4 mil, then **** that. Until the CBA ACTUALLY fixes ridiculous contracts, i'm glad Glen utilized it.

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES!

Here is to looking at a 37 year old piece of ****...great deal...you guys are smoking crack...

He now settled in, cash out and play medicore hockey...you guys are blind...we do the same **** every year and every year you guys love the move...hello Chris Drury part 2.

4 years from now, everyone will be like, why didn't it work...what went wrong..

I wonder who gets a contract offer or traded away now, maybe Sauer, maybe Dubi, maybe Boyle, maybe AA...but who gives a ****...we got our overpaid "superstar".

I wonder how much drive he will have when he is 35 and has collected 40 million from us...maybe he can open up a pizza shop or a fancy resturant...welcome to NYC.

Prove me wrong.

Wait now it's $6.33! Less then Redden is making! hahahaha.

Brooks also said Rangers will have approx $3.5 million in cap space after RFA's are signed.

If Sather can pull off a trade for a scoring LW'er i'd probably die. haha
