So with the cap hit at 6.5, lets turn around and get us some Stamkos shall we?

No, the cap hit stays the same throughout each year of the contract. The money he gets is the real money he receives per year, which averages out to the cap number indicated.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS

Enough to sign the rest of the boys, lets lace em up! Thanks Brad for choosing the Rangers

Thank you SLATS. Thank you TORTS.

THANK YOU SEAN AVERY
Seriously. Avery should be kept around this season as thanks for this, if for no other reason.

Cap hit is just the average annual salary. So years of 10/10/6/6/3/3 would be a cap hit each year of 6.33, for example. 38/6.

Now if Iginla wanted to play so bad with Richards in Calgary, maybe he comes to play with him in New York.

I think it's a bit overlooked, but I don't see where Christensen fits on this roster now.

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Brandon Dubinsky ($4.000m) / Brad Richards ($6.500m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)

Sean Avery ($1.937m) / Artem Anisimov ($1.500m) / Mats Zuccarello-Aasen ($1.750m)
Brandon Prust ($0.800m) / Michael Rupp ($1.500m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.000m)

DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Daniel Girardi ($3.325m)

Tim Erixon ($1.750m) / Mike Sauer ($1.000m)

CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $3,333,333

Unless we are cutting bait with Avery or Wolski (or MZA doesn't make the team), Christensen has no place.

He turned down 9 years $65 million (Almost $7 million more then the Rangers offered) offer from the Flames as per Dreger.

Yeah he wanted a retirement contract.....He left $7 MILLION on the table.

Well it's about time he woke up. And glad he decided on us. Team looks just about complete at this point. Time to start working on those pesky RFA's.

Let's make it exec of the decade !

9 years. Day one everyone is celebrating like the Cup is in our grasp.

Different here indeed.
The signing isn't about how BR will perform in year's 7, 8 and 9. For the next 3-5 years, we have a legit C who will instantly make those around him better. Not to mention role players can actually play their role, and not be forced to play top 6 minutes.

The Bruins' team structure and philosophy is not that different than the NYR. We're a piece or two and within a couple of years away of becoming serious Cup contenders. So, yeah, celebrate this signing and cheers to Slats for not overspending.

4 years from now, everyone will be like, why didn't it work...what went wrong..

I wonder who gets a contract offer or traded away now, maybe Sauer, maybe Dubi, maybe Boyle, maybe AA...but who gives a ****...we got our overpaid "superstar".

I wonder how much drive he will have when he is 35 and has collected 40 million from us...maybe he can open up a pizza shop or a fancy resturant...welcome to NYC.

Prove me wrong.
Not only are you absolutely clueless, as usual, but you offer up the most predictable comments that someone who has no idea what they're talking about would. Love it. Only someone who has zero ability to evaluate talent would compare Richards to Drury.

Aren't you ashamed that pre-teens on this website routinely out think you?

Wow, well I have to say, I'm excited.

I had been on the fence all along about Brad Richards, leaning towards "no." Too many years to this deal, but the cap hit is fine. I've always liked Brad Richards the player, so I'm excited to have him on board.

A lot of us here overrate Booth a bit. I'd just as soon bring back Prospal on the cheap.

We just have to hope against hope that Richards has a prolonged period of productivity. No age 33 dropoffs.

But I suppose the worst case scenario is that he becomes a liability in 4-5 years.

Rupp, Feds, Richards.

I can't believe Sather may have between $3 to $3.5 million in cap space after the RFA's are signed. Move Wolski and Christiansen and you could have almost over $8 million in cap space!

We are legitimate cup contenders! So excited! This was already a good team as it was and now you bring in an elite talent like Brad Richards? At a cap hit that opens the door for further augmenting the team?

This is fantastic! Welcome to the greatest city on the planet, Brad!
