if 9 years, $58.5 million for Richards from Rangers is accurate, that's close/identical to Kings' offer.

The PP HAS TO BE BETTER NOW

Do we buy out Wolski move a little more money and bring another top 2 forward?

Slats has built this team to be able to compete for a very long time.
I wouldn't say that. We still don't have the offensive dman we need. Hopefully Del Zotto can fill the void, but it still remains to be seen how he will bounce back from a poor sophomore season.

I didn't see where he fit on this roster before we signed Richards. Honestly I don't see where he fits on most NHL rosters.

Anyway, great deal for Richards as well as the Rangers. If it's frontloaded then I have no problem with 9 years. Most likely Richards retires after say 6 years, since he won't be leaving much $$ on the table. Or at least at that point he's movable to a team with a lot of cap space since they won't have to pay him much.

And great deal for Richards, he gets his money most in the next 5 years, gets to play with a coach he likes and for a team with a good young core and great goalie.

This is great.

The Rangers are now--despite some youth and inexperience are only a top 6 forward away from being cup contenders.

Now we need a LW! - (LW)-Richards-Gaborik. Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan. - Depending on LW we are looking pretty. Even if we don't get a new one. And if it doesn't work out, at least we will be awesome in NHL 12.

I'm sure we can dump Wolski off for a 3rd round pick or so

yeah 9 years is a lot, but we knew it was going to be a monster deal so does it really matter if we are talking 7 years or 9 years? he wasn't signing a 3 year deal. well he might have for a $10 mil cap hit

lets wait to see how its structured. if its properly frontloaded then it'll be setup expecting him to retire before the deal is up and we won't have to worry about the final years anyway.

It's a solid deal. 8 years would have been a little bit easier to deal with, but really, the last 2-3 years on this deal are irrelevant. Fact of the matter is now we have one of the better playmaking centers in the league at a reasonable cap hit and we can expect 3-5 years of elite/very good play out of him. With our refusal to rebuild and get very high first round picks, this is really the only way we were going to have a chance to contend while Lunqvist was still in his prime.

We have time to work a deal for a 1st line LW. I'm not worried. Sather will bide his time and work his magic.

At least now all of our line combo making for this season was not in vain. Imagine if all of that speculation had gone down the toilet?

I have a feeling this is the first big domino for the Rangers, and Slats has a few moves to be made that were all pending on this deal happening first. I smell a trade or two.

And so it ends..and begins.

The Rangers have their first legitimate top line center in over a decade. Good things are coming.

Don't overlook the fact that we can put wolski there, skilled and in a contract year

I will hold off on my gloating.

But we all know the confident/cocky poster was right all along.

9 years is an awfully long time, but it's a great cap hit and the last couple of years are basically irrelevant. I'm really looking forward to how the rest of the team shakes out now.

Welcome to NY Brad!!!!

Might be true... but people say that with almost EVERY big move that any team ever makes. Usually not true.

This is a real good deal. Richards already signed his retirement contract with Tampa, this contract is Pure gravy. He will make a bundle in the first 4-6 years and will be able to walk away whenever ge wants. Hopefully for us he will know when it's time and not drag it out.

At this point in this teams development this is a no-brainer deal!!
