What kind of a player Brad Richards is?

I'll be ecstatic if he manages 25 goals and 70 points next year prorated for 82 games..

Well, glad he wanted to go to NY also

Kinda crazy, I don't like these kind of contracts so I can't just hand wave it away when the Rangers do it, but what's done is done. I hope the NHL fixes that in the next CBA

Alright, Rangers should be much improved at least

I really hope Richards goes with 91 instead of 19. 19 would give me 'Nam like flashbacks.

Does Richards get to wear 19 again?

Fedotenko wore 17 when they were together in TB. I wonder how that will play out

Edit: BB, I don't like that we're thinking about the same things at the same time.

I'm just going to throw out there that Christensen as the LW on a Richards Gaborik line actually has the potential to unlock the best in him.

If we dont have any better options it would at least be worth looking into.

I was wondering about that too. Honestly I expect him to pick 19 but who knows.

I'd rather try dubinsky because he is a better puck possession player. EC floats more. Rather get rid of EC all together.

As a hard checking forward I would murder that line. They'd be done after two periods, game over. Welcome to the Patrick Division

ecstatic? i think that would be kind of an average season for him. Frankly ecstatic for me would be more like what he did 2 years ago...24/67/91

basically youre replacing Drurys 5 points with 70-90 points from Richards (assuming hes healthy)...thats a HUGE boost. and you know Gabby will have a better season.

Wow lots of jealousy on the internet.

You have Devil and Icelander fans talking about the Rangers "overpaying" for another FA.
Why not build around smart signings...
Build around Dubinsky, Callahan, Staal etc...
The need to go out and get overpay the best free agent on the market has not worked.

Just plan dumb.

It's funny because we didnt overpay.

We got the number one center that we NEEDED. This wasnt a want.

And they still have plenty of cap space to re-sign AA Cally Dubi Sauer AND add a piece.

Let them talk. There's a sure fire way to shut them up and that is to rack up the W's in the coming years!

The Kovalchuk amendment for long term contracts

Quote:
Additionally, in any long-term contract that averages more than $5.75 million for the three highest-compensation seasons, the following rule shall apply: Solely to determine its value for purposes of the Salary Cap, a player's compensation for any season in which he is age 36, 37, 38, 39 and/or 40 shall be valued at a minimum of $1 million.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-267414

$50 million in the first 5 years

$10 million in the last 4 years

Those last 2 or 3 years could be worth $1M each in salary.
