versteeg sucked and was expendable, give it up.
Was thinking the same exact thing about this, we got almost the same return on him when we traded for him.. If florida is a lottery team and we make the playoffs the difference from our pick to that pick will be 10 slots maybe(around)

But ive seen so many people on here want him to go... then he goes.... then people are mad at homer. It doesnt make sense

Yeah purely a salary dump for another move.....I still would have liked to have seen a complete season from Versteeg but if they get a good free agent it will be a moot point. Still an expensive rental for the Flyers with a low return due to his injury and just not meshing.

Well at least the two massive turnover machines Leino and Versteeg are gone..although Briere is still around but hopefully Jagr protects the puck and is more complimentary for Briere.

@DarrenDreger

Kris Versteeg doesn't have a twitter acct, so he asked me to post this quote," I'm takin my toe drag to south beach". Not much else to say.

That's solid. I feel like we would've liked Versteeg if he had some more time here.

I like Versteeg. But with Richards gone I can see why they traded him.

Q: When you traded Versteeg, was that to open some cap space or did you think someone else was available?

Let him take the toe-drag to South Beach. Maybe down there they won't care that that move results in a turnover more than a shot on net.

Someone should let Versteeg know that the stadium the Panthers play in is over an hour from South Beach.

Thats funny though.

FLA will have some serious speed with upshall, fleischman and versteeg.
Turnover machines though.

All I know is their better be something else. I'd rather have held on to him if they're not going to use the cap space for something else.

I wish we had seen him play healthy, but guess we won't now. The thing that pissed me off about him was when he would make a good move, he would then decide to try to make 3 or 4 more, when he has no where near that talent These moves would lead to a chance for the opposing team. He did not use the fundmental dump and chase which I learned when I was 4, but instead thought he was playing NHL 11 with 99 dangling.

I still wouldnt mind having Arnott on this team provided the price is right.
Going down the middle with Giroux,Briere,Arnott and Talbot wouldnt be bad.
I am not convinced that Schenn is ready for 3rd line duties. Especially for a team that is weak down the middle defensively right now.

To be fair when he can actually skate and cut, those dangles are a lot more useful to beat defenders. He couldn't move at all like he normally does with us and it showed. At the very least he's got a sense of humor.

I was completely on board with this trade when it seemed like it was in conjunction with "something bigger".

...if we don't make another move, Versteeg would have been a pretty solid player to have on the third line.

You mean replacing a guy with top six talent with a guy who possesses AHL talent isn't a great hockey move?

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded seeing what a healthy Versteeg could have done for us. Meh, still not the worst rental price to pay even if he didn't contribute much in the end.

I keep thinking the same thing. What was the point in trading Versteeg at this juncture is there is no one to replace him? He's good for 20 goals. We replaced him with 0 goals.

I strongly dislike Versteeg, and desperately wanted him traded this offseason (although I didn't think it would actually happen); however, I agree here. What is the point of trading a good player (how good is up for debate, but he's a good player) for picks when you are in "win now" mode, without replacing that player with somebody else? I just don't get it.

Still waiting for the other shoe to drop...

Apparently we have 5 mil in cap room. That'll drop when Simmonds is signed (if he's signed)...I wonder what Homer is waiting for.
