The dream is over - Gagne signs with the Kings, 2 years $7M

RT @LAKings: #LAKings reach verbal agreement with left wing Simon Gagne on two-year contract. More details to come.

EDIT:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/spor...-richards.html

Quote:
Shut out in the Brad Richards sweepstakes, the Kings on Saturday agreed to terms with free-agent left wing Simon Gagne on a two-year, $7-million deal.

He will earn $4.5 million the first year and $2.5 million the second, following the pattern of front-loading free agents’ contracts in case of a lockout after the 2011-12 season.

Gagne, 31, scored 17 goals and 40 points and was -12 defensively in 63 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. Before that, he played 10 seasons for the Philadelphia Flyers, peaking at 47 goals and 79 points in the 2005-06 season.

One of his Philadelphia teammates was Mike Richards, who was acquired by the Kings last week.

Gagne joins an already large Flyers alumni club in Los Angeles, with Coach Terry Murray, assistant John Stevens, General Manager Dean Lombardi and winger Justin Williams having Philadelphia on their respective resumes.

It was far from a dream of mine to get him back. He's on the downswing and is a major risk. I would have only wanted him if he was wiling to have a cap hit around $3M.

Haha now everyone can stop dreaming about getting Gagne back. He isn't getting any better at this point in his career. I would've liked him back for 2 mil or less per season but we don't need him on this team

A good two-way forward that could play in our top 6? We could have used him.

I wanted him for the Schenn-Simmonds line.

God damn you Homer.

3.5 is fair, we could have used him since we shipped away Versteeg, and you could have righted the wrong you made last year.

That's a pretty big hit for a player who has been injured for much of the past 2 seasons. I would have liked him for about 2 mil.

Regarding Holmgren being done, how can he be done if there is cap space available? I think he'll make some pitch for someone just to use up the space.

Do we really have to pay all the way up to the cap? I think the roster is pretty much filled out as of now...
