I didn't know stats carry over to the playoffs.

My only expectation is making the playoffs before the last day of the season and not as an 8 seed.

I have big doubts New Jersey is going to get back to the playoffs this year or even in the relative near future. Sure--Parise is back and is a huge part of their team but they have an old declining goaltender and a pretty unspectacular looking defense. And they're not deep in potential prospects and they still have too many aging players.

And might as well say I started raising doubts about them very early on last year when a lot of people were going on about how unstoppable their super line which included both Parise and Kovalchuk was going to be. This is not to gloat over that but to point out I don't think they're going in the right direction under Lou. And bear in mind the Devils only got it going after Lemaire was rehired and implemented a very defensive conscious strategy to keep his team around in games and now Lemaire is retired again. I don't know who their coach is now or if they even have one.

#4 seed. Kids develop further. The pack line is a monster again and healthy. Gabby and Brad find chemistry. Erixon and MDZ are on the big club.
Rupp beats the crap out of Carcillo.
Win a playoff series or 2 if we overachieve. I will be very happy.

That being said you're right, he's only getting older...but as far as his career numbers go they don't do him justice.

He's much better than that 2.57 career GAA says he is and his .915sv% is just .003 less than Hanks .918.

Also interesting to note that I know a lot of people in Buffalo who are fed up with Miller, but I'm 100% positive that was just shiny new toy syndrome when Enroth started getting good playing time.
I watch the sabres a solid amount when I'm upstate, which is for most of the hockey season, and from what I've seen there is no reason to believe his stats are lying. You posted his career numbers (which are worse than Hanks) but obviously included in those numbers is his crazy good outlier of a season. Like I said before, he had one amazing year and hasn't duplicated it since or even come close to it before.

I said people should just take a look at his career numbers, but I guess I'll just post them to make it easier starting from his first season playing more than 15 games.

GAA Sv%
2.60 .914
2.73 .911
2.64 .906
2.53 .918
2.59 .916

That's excluding his olympics year where he put up a 2.22 and a .929. Take this year out and his career numbers aren't impressive.

When you talk about goalies and how good they are it's important to really scrutinize their play and really be stingy with praise. Scrubs get hot and put up great numbers for periods of time, but then go back to being scrubs. Others are elite each year like our guy. Others are mediocre, then play above their level, then go back to being mediocre. This last type is Ryan Miller.

At this point, you have to question whether Avery and EC will be around. What happens with MZA? What about room for a rookie (Thomas)? So many questions for the bottom of the lineup.

Of course on D we have to wonder if MDZ makes it. Erixon we assume has a very good shot. I assume Eminger comes back as a #6/7. Does that mean that Valentenko has no shot? or will it come down to Valentenko vs. MDZ in camp?

I can see..

Gabs 35/65
Richards 24/75
Dubinsky 22/55
Callahan 22/48
Stepan 25/50
Anisimov 20/45
WW 16/30

Rangers finish anywhere from 2-4 in division. Philadelphia is a wild card really, hard to gauge. Lots of factors - Jagr's motivation, Bryz's consistency, general chemistry, Briere w/o Leino just to name a few. Devils will be better and make the playoffs. Pittsburgh will take the division with healthy Crosby and Malkin. Isles a year or 2 away from seriously competing.

As for conference, I see a 5-7 seed. Pit, Caps, and Bruins will be the top 3, Tampa at 4, followed by NYR, Phi, Buf, and NJ in any order. Carolina and Montreal on the outside just looking in.

To be realistic and not set the goals too high; this team still has some question marks and health is one of them. Also, will the PP improve or just be some bad EA Sports mismatch? That 3rd D pair is going to be interesting too.

With all things considered, at best I say a #4 seed and at worst a #7 seed and if everyone is healthy, I think they get to at least the second round.

Rookies; I see Hagelin and Erixon making the team and cameos for Kundratek, V-Tank, and Jason Wilson.

I expect Anisimov and Stepan to both increase their production by a decent amount, and Wolski to be a good third wheel to Richards/Gabby.

Callahan is going to have fun on the PP deflecting a lot of Richards and Erixon's loose change.

I see the Rangers finishing between 4th (if everything breaks right) and 7th (if little does). The east is REALLY tough though

Gaborik 75 pts (40 goals)
Richards 75 pts
Stepan 55
Dubinsky 62
Callahan 55
Anisimov 53
Boyle 38
Wolski 45...I see him stepping up this year on Richards and Gaborik's line

Henrik finally gets his Vezina

Richards and Gaborik are proven ppg players

Cally was on par for 60

The others were of by like 5 points

Hell, I think Cally is capable of 75 points this season, and I'm sticking to it.

This team has few questions.
Can Brad help gabby get back to elite?
Who is top line LW?
Who is the PMD?
Who will shoot the puck on the PP from the point and not miss the net ?
Can the young D continue growing?
This year may provide some answers but not all of them.

It's not about the stats. If Stepan becomes a 75-point center, as was suggested (which I don't believe he will next season, but I am just saying that IF he is right ...), then we have 5 elite players: Lundqvist in the net, Staal on defense and Gaborik, Brad and Step on offense.

Along with our good depth, that would be enough to make us probably win the East and be the favorite to win the Cup as the playoffs begin.

After all, how many means have 5 All Stars along with good depth?

Why? With Brad on the team, other centers will play less, with worse inmates and in fewer key situations (PP, 6th man in the last minute, 4 on 4).

They scored 40 goals last year. It would not be bad if we get the same 40 goals again this year, in a worse situation for them.

To expect over 50 goals from them would be totally unreasonable.

If all goes well, i don't see why were not equal if not better than buffalo, phily and jersey. My money's on 4-6. Richards getting us an extra 5 wins/10 points or so.

IF:
-Gabby gets back to elite
-Del zotto shows his offensive promise and chips in 40ish points
-Saucer and mcdonagh don't slam into a sophomore slump
-someone steps up as a top line Lw
-stepan gets 60+ points
I don't see why this team can't go for a good run.

Fair point but I want to point out that Richards will man the blueline on the powerplay... shouldn't cut into any centerman's time with the man advantage.

There should be a poll for this thread. I say we'll nab the 5 seed and get to the ECF. Why not dream big? It's July.

I wonder what would be if Gaborik will not retain his scoring touch next season? This might be another big problem for this club. Let's just hope it won't happen.
