Your GM has stones and keeps things interesting, you got to give him that.

My outsiders perspective is that I like what Philly did. You had alot of assets but there seemed to be chemistry issues. Holmgren redeployed his assets to strengthen goaltending and change the chemistry, plus pick up some needed draft picks. If I'm a flyer fan I think I would be happy with all the moves, as a Bruins fan I think Philly will be stiff competition for years to come.

The Canucks played the Blackhawks (probably the best bottom-4 team in the West), the Preds (best defense in the league and an extremely hot goalie, should've been the 4th seed), and the Sharks (#2 seed). They proved to be pretty dominant in the West. "Dominance" doesn't give you the Stanley Cup; consistency, health, and good match-ups do.
My problem is that saying the team is a Cup contender by depending on luck is different than depending on good players. I agree that luck is often needed, but that team would not have been a dominant team without it. I'd rather depend upon common sense and reason than luck.

We wouldn't have had issues with needing draft picks if he hadn't overpaid with them in trades the past 3 years. We wouldn't have had so many issues if he hadn't screwed up the cap situation over and over again. He made a ton of changes this year because he was forced to by Snider and it's changed the entire team. We could have had more but he screwed up repeatedly.

And last year's team had good players, but they got injured and drew the worst possible match-up for them in the Bruins.

Last year's team, as they played, didn't deserve to win the Cup, but they were without a doubt one of the top 5 contenders in the league.

That was important when we got Lavi but it's not so important when you trade away one of the best penalty killers of his generation (not to mention a guy who has won at every level) and a 40 goal scorer who is one of the best backchecking centericemen in hockey...

Homer got a fortune cookie that said "may you live in interesting times" sometime in early April last year, I think. It's been a roller coster ride ever since.

Seeing Jagr in o&b will be weird. Maybe we should change colours though and go with Czech national team jerseys. He's always hustled more and actually cared about play below the defensive blue line when he's been in that.
