Based on what I've seen from Da Costa thusfar, I can essentially guarantee that he is not ready to play at the NHL level. That should be very quickly confirmed a few days into training camp.
I like Greening a lot but I don't think you want both him and Butler flanking Spezza on your 1st line. That's just not sustainable no matter how well they played during their brief stint in a no-pressure environment at the end of this past season.
Also, Alfie won't be on the 3rd line. Regin is not the guy I want playing with Filatov. That sets them both up for failure.
You need another established player in that Top 6 so that Regin can be bumped out of there and not counted on to do anything offensively. His future is as a smart 2 way checking centre and they need to get him into that role sooner rather than later before they completely ruin his confidence by having him fail as an offensive producer (something he clearly isn't built for).
I think Zibanejad is a far better option than Regin but it still isn't the right move at this time to insert him into such an important role at the age of 18. You would much rather provide some more insulation for a player of that age as opposed to just handing him a role where he'll be expected to put up 45-50 points as a teenage rookie.
Fair enough but it looks like this year is not a buyers market for UFA forwards. Maybe its just me, but if they think the market will be kinder than the comparable aloud in an arbitration, they may just be in for a rude awakening.
Two years, $1.5 and $1.8, seems pretty fair for a 24 year old that just had a 21 goal season. Think St Louis knew what they were doing.
