Top 9 looking good

Something along the lines of

Cole - Plek - Cammy
Gionta - Gomez - Pacioretty
Akost - DD - Eller

On paper i think these can be 3 very good offensive lines. We got speed, vision and the talent to finish the plays. A decent physical upside aswell and i think this gives us great depth. I know most of you hate the Cole signing (is there ever a move thats liked at 1st in montreal anyway) but i'm very enthusiastic about next year. If we stay healthy i think we can be a contender.

A lot of Eastern team have better team now than last year!!

It will be hard for the Habs to get into playoff if Markov fall down again
Philly? But I agree, if Markov stumbles, things suddenly don't look so good...

I am saying they won by an overtime victory and that one of those games they scored an ot goal and win on a play that was almost 2 yards off side. If the Ref blows the play dead, who knows who wins that game.

that is all.

We were an overtime from knocking off the Bruins, without Markov. I really don't think this team depends on him that much anymore.

Emelin is going to be better than most are giving him credit for.

I'm excited. Last year the season ended for me when Gorges went down. After that, I had no expectations without our 2 best dman.

Adding Cole and the emergence of MaxPac has given us depth finally up front. I wouldn't mind signing a #4dman to take the load off of Gill/Yemelin/Weber but its hard to imagine they'd ever sit Spacek in the pressbox over Weber.

Sign Brendan Morrison to 2yr deal. A solid bottom pairing center who can fill the void if any of the top goes down. Rap up Georges, bring back sopel and you have your self a legit contender.

Extremely excited. For the first time, I can actually see where goals may come from.

I think our window starts this year. This line up looks complete.

Scott Gomez - 4th line?

I know I will probably get flamed for this but here is an idea I have had for a little while now.

I would like to see Scott Gomez as the 4th line center.

I know the politics are totally against this happening. I mean the guy is the highest paid player in the history of the team, he was brought in to be a top-2 center, etc.

But let's look at the facts. The way he played last year, Gomez would be an awesome 4th line center. Perfect fit at this point. He skates extremely fast, carries the puck well, creates a good cycle in the offensive zone, and backchecks like crazy.

Imagine the following line: Moen-Gomez-White. They would never get scored on and would pressure the other team like crazy. They'd get the odd goal sometimes. Gomez would carry the puck into the offensive zone, do whatever with it while Moen and White create havoc around the net and in the corners.

This is made possible because of the emergence of two young centers: Lars Eller and David Desharnais. Their play throughout the season and especially in the playoffs lead me to believe they could step up and play 2nd and 3rd line centers on this team, especially with our quality wingers.

This is just an experience. If DD or Eller struggle you can still plug Gomez on the top 2 lines. Imagine this lineup:

Cammalleri Plekanec Kostitsyn
Pacioretty Desharnais Gionta
Cole Eller Palushaj/Darche
Moen Gomez White

I mean... gives a lot of confidence to Eller and Desharnais to developp their games... we know they are our future at C.

Gomez would be the most useful 4th line C in the league... who cares if he gets paid 7,5M... lineup fits under the cap.

All that matters is winning.

Let's try it.

Yes, all that matters is winning. But Gomez on the 4th line is never going to happen. If it does by any chance happen, hats off to you. But I don't see JM putting him on the 4th at his contract. I think he'd rather keep trying for an entire season to make him break out rather than put him on the 4th line for a shift. Either, they keep him there season long, he doesn't do much as usual. Either, they keep him there and to everyone's surprise and gratitude, he produces and actually causes opportunities. OR, PG trades/sends him to AHL because they're fed up in which case we probably get another overpaid center or try our luck with Eller.

I wouldn't judge Gomez by last year. That would not be fair. I do not think he will be moved this off-season.

don't judge vets but it's okay to judge kids after 10 games.

You dont seem to remember how much more harsh JM is regarding to younger players, like say Subban. Remember that one time, he tried to make a move at the blue line, which resulted in a turnaround and JM healthy scratching him for the next 3 games? That's just one example. If JM wants to be more patient with vets, he also needs to treat younger players more fairly. I understand that he wants to mold them well, but sometimes, he's way too harsh.

Its kind of a moot point. Unless eller takes some developmental leaps, or desharnais proves that he can play consistently against the other team's best players, then gomez is the option at #2 centre by default.

We'll talk about how the habs can move him in a lesser role if someone within the organization does the unexpected and takes charge of the role that gomez was supposed to be taking care of.

Treatment varies by player more than by age. Stage of development also matters. Players early in their stage of development are more susceptible to coaching techniques that may be viewed as harsh. On the flip side, such 'punishment' imposed on a veteran player may be looked upon as embarrassing and humiliating--which is a good way to alienate players.
