They might bring in a 1st/2nd line tweener for the LW. Would be my thought anyway even if they don't this team is solid.

Or Slats is very confident Dubinsky can fill the role of top line LW. Could go either way.

He may well be he's not the one I am worried about, give me an upgrade over Wolski and I consider this a fantastic off season.

That is the one thing the caps have been missing for a while.

They finally have a legit goalie and imo are a much better and scary team now.

That move instantly makes them a serious cup contender. You obviously have to see how Vokoun will handle the pressure, But he is one of the top goalies in the league in my book.

I wonder if the feeling is that the ship has sailed.

Remember when Philadelphia got Biron a few years ago and it was hailed as the Flyers finally getting a legit #1? And in reality, he played pretty well for them in the regular season for a couple of years. But the truth is that he wasn't really a #1 guy anymore. Vokoun is old and I wonder if the market sees him as past his "sell-by" date.

Hmmm, he is obviously old, but. He is simply put a great goaltender. His past cap hit was at 5.7 mill i believe. I can not for the life of me imagine that no other team was gonna give him a multi year deal at at least 4.5 AAV.

On the other hand. Vokoun may be considering hanging them up soon and wants to go out with a bang. He is capable of doing that.

Imagine? Your last season. Vezina, Stanley Cup

Would be a great story.

Vokoun is still a fantastic goaltender. Better than Bryz, IMO.

I don't like the Hamrlik or Ward signings, but the Voukoun move is great. They just took a giant step forward in the contenders race.

Vokoun is an unreal signing. Makes the Flyers moves look a bit more ill-adivsed -- although, hindsight is 20/20. They probably thought Vokoun would have priced them out.

Still, after two questionable moves by McPhee, he makes up for it in a big way. $1.5M for arguably the most consistent goaltender in the league since 2006 is absolutely incredible value.

The Caps need to figure out how to play as a team still and how to push even harder when things get tough. That and Boudreau needs to figure out what he is doing before I get too scared. A highly talented team by all means but we've seen those fail before.

Yeah, McPhee had a weird couple of days...he gets a great deal moving Varlamov, and then overpays for Ward and Hamrlik. Then he steals Vukuon.

That could be the steal of the century. Imagine the Caps end up with another scary good Russian kid. They get rid of Semin, Yakupov/Grigorenko (who would be a lot more eager to come to America if he got to play with Ovechkin)/Galchenyuk becomes Ovi's new best buddy. They use Semin's cap space to get a great shut down defenseman.

Frightening.

Personally, I agree with you. I just don't think the market does. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a bad year.

I think you pose a valid point, however you never know when an older goalie can just turn it on like Roloson did for Tampa Bay. May not have played elite like Thomas did, but played to a high enough ceiling to give TB a great a chance.

The quote was "high-priced".

Maybe he tries for a player not as costly in salary.

We still have parts that can be moved. We still need to add parts.

We need someone that brings it every shift on LW.

Vokoun is making less than Mike Smith now. Vokoun must have come down in asking price after talks broke off with Phoenix because Maloney didn't sign him and went with Smith instead. I guess playing for a possible contender in Washington over Phoenix or the Islanders will do that.

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought Neuvrith was more than capable... basically, goaltending isn't their problem. Their defense is the issue, Green isn't a May player.
