really nice words from hamrlik today

We could just sign Hannan, we have 8m cap space. Hannan would be somewhere in the 3.5m range. Him and Gorges would be about 6m and we would have 2m for a bottom 6 player.

Markov-Emelin
Gill-Subban
Hannan-Gorges
Weber
Spacek

Or we could go for another forward and play Weber with Gorges.

Signing say Drury and Bernier would be about 4m for Gorges.

To be honest there isn't enough on the market for to give up Spacek.
It would have to be a trade for another player for spacek and a pick/prospect.

Last wishes for the summer,
I would like to add a Zenon Konopka to put some weight on that fourth line, and if we manage to move Spacek, I would add another D (don't know who though.)

This is our current line-up..
Cammy-Pleks-Cole
Patches-Gomez-Gionta
Desharnais-Eller-Kostitsyn
Darche-Engqvist-Moen
White

Markov-Gorges
Subban-Gill
Emelin-Spacek
Weber

Price
Budaj

I'd like to add Konopka to replace Engqvist and Hannan to be paired with Markov, bumping Spacek down to the role of 7th D with Weber. Trying to actively find a way to rid of Spacek's contract.

Hope we get Saku from Anaheim if Teemu retires. Send them Gomez.

I guess I should have expected that.
Leaf forwards have been playing run and gun for years. Look at Stajan and Hagman's totals in Toronto versus Calgary, or how Poni fell of a cliff after leaving. As a result Toronto's fan think their guys are equivalent to other teams players with similar counting stats.

One of the biggest things is how they fail to play to the score. Most teams when the have the lead tighten up to lower the amount of events because that makes victory more likely. Toronto keeps going for the goal when they have the lead which inflates shots for and scoring but cripples defense.

The only good line they had last year was Kulemin-Grabrovski-MacArthur and Cammaleri-Plekanec-Cole/Kostitsyn would eat their lunch in a matchup.

Pretty damn solid!

Cammalleri-Plekanec-Kostisyn
Cole-Gomez-Gionta
Pacioretty-Eller-Desharnais
Darche-Konopka-Moen with Weber alternating on the wings occasionally

That would be my preferred line-up going into the season.

Funnily enough, I think Koivu might be gone from there next season in which case trading them Gomez for his final two years might be good for both teams. They'll need a 2nd line center and there won't be many around and they care more about actual salary than cap hit. This is predicated on the assumption Gomez has a bounce back season and gets 50-60 points.

Anaheim, Phoenix and Winnipeg are my top 3 potential Gomez trading partners for next summer.

They need to leave Weber on d, or trade him.

Nobody wants to fight him so just occasionally gets on the ice to politely ask someone if they would like to fight, then skates back to the bench when turned down. Played 34 games for Edmonton and only managed one example of actual enforcing. Fans of the worst team in the NHL are pleased to see him gone.

What exactly would he do?

Stop it, Laraque, you are lucky you made it to the NHL and got millions. In today hockey youd be nothing else than a bouncer or a doorman in some club.

As far as I'm concerned, it's time to give Weber and White some regular time. I have Spacek as my #7 and Engqvist is not making it. White moves up on the 3rd. Desharnais centers the 4th. Which makes me believe....we have to improve.

In shape and in his prime, BGL would play in today's hockey.

Damn the Habs offered him 3.5? Too much. I wonder if they have an alternative. Because when you lose a 3.5 guy, they wanted to sign him of that amount that means they had a great perception of him, they saw him as a pretty important D, they needed him. So you need a pretty important big minutes D in return.

Thats my understanding as well how.can we offer a guy most likely 3,5 and then just do like we never offered that... UNLESS PG did it in purpose.cause he knew he wouldnt accept and found a more courtious way of flushing him...

I dont think Desharnais makes it as a center, more likely as a winger, and what better way to learn then with two bigger guys

Did people actually read the article before bashing Laraque and giving him hell like that? I'm not a fan of his neither because of the way he played for us, but he's a very well spoken man and his thoughts are actually the same as most of us: saying the Canadiens overpaid for Cole, but they had no choice in the new reality hockey; that every team does and that Montreal at least signed the right guy, because he would really help the team with their size issue.
