Bryan McCabe

Now that we have Richards in the fold, he will obviously be the quarter back on the power play. Now, I know McCabe was not successful here, but what are peoples' thoughts on bringing him back. He's on the downside of his career, but would probably come very cheap, still has a hell of a shot, and maybe a full season on the Rangers, and playing with Richards will revive him, and we can use him on the other point on the PP or on the 2nd PP unit. That, and he can mentor our young defense, and maybe help groom Del Zotto a little..thoughts?

As a 7th Dman mayybee but honestly I'd like to move on from that boat.

Would rather bring in Babchuk to patrol the PP.

Do not want.

He has heavily declined. His mobility is all but gone, and he has become increasingly predictable. He's more of a potential negative than a potential positive at this point. Let the Isles have him.

No thanks, he literally serves no purpose here now with Richards.

I certainly think that's possible. He's 36 years old, coming off an ehh season, he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on, I'd think..no?

I don't want him either.

He really looked bad here at times. His powerplay help was minimal.

I'd much rather let the kids run the show back there and have someone like Eminger back as an extra d-man.

To be fair, he's a shooter who was asked to pass on the PP. If Richards can get him the puck and his job was just to shoot and ask questions later, it's be a different story.

Still, he should be a #7 at this point and nothing more and I'd still rather just go with any five of Erixon/Kundratek/Valentenko/Del Z/Pashnin (long shot) with a vet as #7.

Meh, he was serviceable. I wouldn't be upset if he was brought back for really cheap, but there are more suitable bottom pairing options out there.

Why? Brad Richards is a PP QB, not a PP Shooter.

There's a difference. QB directs the puck, moves it around, gets it to where i tneeds to go.

Ideally youd have a guy like Zdeno Chara right next to him who would pull the defense up high so that Richards can pick em apart with passes down low. With that said, I wouldnt have a problem with someone like Valentenko getting a shot, if he can play D at this level.

I think he could still be useful.

A big reason the power play didn't improve much with him is because he's a shooter, not a real PP QB. We were asking him to do too much. We did need a shooter, but more so a puck mover. I think playing on a unit with Richards he could still be pretty deadly. His shot is still good.

That said, I'd prefer Eminger. I wouldn't hate McCabe for $1M, but I wouldn't be jumping for joy.

If we want a PP shot from the point, sign The Anton, or perhaps even bring up Valentenko.

Honestly, if Babchuk was signed, I think our Powerplay could be very deadly. Not sure if he's going to price himself out of a job, though.

Why? Valentenko's shot is just as hard and he's much better defensively.

No thanks, he makes our defense worse and is like rosie on offense, inconsistent and predictable. Waste of capspace.

Rather sign a vet like Babchuk or let V-Tank, MDZ, Kundratek show what they can do

I'll wait until seeing Valentenko play against NHL forwards to make that judgment. I worry about his mobility at the next level. It's also a knock on McCabe, for sure, but I think people are a bit too confident in Valentenko's ability to make the jump. Kundratek was better than Valentenko this year, and I don't think Kundratek is particularly special.

If we're going to carry an immobile defenseman with a big shot to be our seventh, I'd rather it be a veteran.

Well if we want a one timer we can just offer sheet Stamkos.

Seriously though, i'd take Babchuk, V-Tank, and Caber in that order. No problem with McCabe if he came back for very cheap, but I think he's a defensively liability. I'd rather a guy who's not who also has a nasty shot.

Agreed.
I would really prefer Yandle in a trade, solves so many problems. But that ain't going to happen.

Sign Babchuk for 1.75 M per for 2 years.
If he is asking for too much VTank should be called up, I am pretty sure he will be more mobile than McCabe and has a cannon for a shot, which is exactly what the PP needs.

As I said though, how do we know Valentenko isn't a liability? He'll be a rookie defenseman with mobility concerns. I think we need to see him against regular NHL players before we make that judgment. He's far from a sure thing to be defensively steady.

Which is why I take Anton first.

Then with V-tank you at least have a rookie who's learning the game while being a liability, not a vet who's a liability because he's losing his game.
