Other people making worse deals does not make this deal better? Laich isn't worth this money to this team. If anything, the Ward contract makes it just look like GMGM just doesn't give a **** about the cap.

Welcome to the reality of a free market. I know you don't want to face it...but it is what it is....

I don't get why you don't get that it's both possible he would have gotten more elsewhere and him still not being worth that to us.

Oh I get it....but you really lost the argument 2 days ago when you stated that Boyd Gordon does EVERYTHING Laich does (minus the top 50 in goals in the league...). Clearly he doesn't and the Caps agree.

Caps paid what turns out now, to be AT or BELOW market value for Laich...look at the other signings and wrap your head around reality. That's what happened today...

Huh? What I said was Gordo had Laich's intangibles, which on the open market are worth about a million, and that Laich's offense is what was getting him paid, and his offense was the product of Alex Semin.

As to what is "clear" and what the "Caps think"...they've done enough things just about everyone here has disagreed with at some point in the last 2 months that I don't think anything they do is clear evidence of that thing actually being the right thing to do.

Other people aren't making worse deals. The money-to-player exchange rate is bad right now. That shouldn't change your decision on which players to buy.

I know I may be one of few expecting Laich at 2C but an NHLNetwork guy likes him there as well.

I suspect MJ + Semin will be too soft. We have thick wingers now. At some point, they will have to mesh with our more finesse players.

Brouwer Laich Semin | Chimera MJ Ward

Perhaps as the roster comes into form.
I'm not sure how many games Laich will play that role, but perhaps a better question is: how many games into the season until WSH acquires its real 2C? The answer: how many games until the TDL?

We can always start and early tdl thread and guess which 34+ center will be available for a 2nd rounder.

i am still inclined to think he will be the 2LW or the 3C, not the 2C.

Oh I agree. Then that's when you have to question the signing in dollars for 3C or team makeup for 2LW.

But the caps going to work this year and who knows going forward, we may let semin walk and have more of a grinding second-line and spend money on a grinding 2C.. A lot depends on mojo's development. Cause we need a strong 2C IMHO to compete.

Whether we like it or not, I think he starts out as the 2C. The money and praise given, not to mention GM calling him a C, sure point to him being in the middle of the second line. There doesn't seem to be much interest in other Cs either.
