Wow, people are suddenly assuming he's made the team already.

If he impresses, I'd want him to be nothing more then an injury filler, too old and hasn't exactly been spectacular in his recent years.

On this one, I will say I disagree with JFJ on bringing him in, even if it's just training camp.

By inviting someone to training camp?

I think you need to back away from your computer....very slowly

It's forcing the young guys to step up their game even further.

This is sick. Quinn wants more vets. Youth denied once more.

Mush will attend camp as an invite. Stumpy is now reported by Sportsnet as having signed with Detroit. If Keaner and Mush come to camp as invites, it hurts noone and makes camp more challenging. If they happen to beat out other players for a spot, then it will be because their play warranted it.

Forwards:

1) Sundin
2) Lindros
3) Allison

4) O'Neill
5) Tucker
6) Czerkawski

7) Antropov
8) Stajan
9) Ponikarovsky

10) Domi
11)
12)

13) Kilger
14) Belak

There are two starting spots there for the taking.

Steen is looking like a lock to take one of those spots.

If a kid like Wellwood or Williams impresses in camp, there's a roster spot there for him, and Keane doesn't get signed. If none of the kids play well, the Leafs can sign Keane, or go with a guy like Wilm or Perrott.

Defense

1) McCabe
2) Kaberle

3) Klee
4) Khavanov

5) Berg
6)

7)

There are two spots open for the kids to take, now that Pilar is out of action.

Colaiacovo looks like a lock to take one of them.

If any of the other kids impress at training camp - Kronwall, White, Harrison, Bell - there's another spot for them available.

If none of them impress enough to stay, then the Leafs can sign Marchment as the 7th.

Goalies:

1) Belfour
2)

There is one spot open for the kids to take.

Tellqvist could take it with an impressive training camp. If he doesn't impress, Aubin takes it.

In short, the leafs are locked in on giving Steen and Colaiacovo starting spots, which is a solid youth movement by itself, right on the heels of Stajan and Poni getting one last season.

In addition to the two locks, there's room for 3 more rookies to join the lineup if they impress enough at training camp. I'd wager that 1 of those 3 spots is taken by one of the kids, giving us 3 rookies on the team this year.

Which is about what you'd like.

I see Kilger in for sure, he was on the first line while with Montreal.

Also, how old is JFjr.? Keane is 38, and Fergy looks like he's old...er

Mess, you remember you and I discussing the possibility that JFJ wants the youth like Steen Wellwood etc. to develop together under Maurice, not Quinn?

Advantages of this approach:
1. Maurice's mandate will be to focus on the development of the player; Quinn's focus is what you can do for me now.
2. Players develop chemistry together
3. Players develop confidence together
4. Players are not ruined by Quinn
5. Maurice knows them for when he takes over the Leafs in the 2007-2008 season.

Does anyone have stats on the average age of our team? I'm willing to wager it's quite reasonable this year.

Probably a good decision for Keane .. Showing up for camp with any team would only expose him and have shown he is washed up ..

Sitting and waiting for someone to offer him a deal sight unseen first definitely works to his advantage...but would anyone in real life buy an old used car without first test driving it ??

No Keane is a good scene

The position of overage mentor will have to go to perhaps Thomas in training camp who has accepted the offer to attend according to Sportsnet.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/artic...10_205737_4424

I don't think that Keane will have a chance with many teams this year - too old, no ofensive upside and defence will have to be a great offence this year. If we are to believe the reports of change I would submit that a puck posession game is the one most teams will play and the defensive specialist (a-la Valk and Fitzgerald will end up by the wayside - regardless of conditioning.)
