With Hatcher out 4-6 mos..

This may be the time to trade Zhitnik and get serious in the Ovechkin derby.

hatcher out, macinnis out with his retina seperated, the sabres could possibly trade away a zhitnik or you dman and young forward for a big tough defenseman and/or good checking forward. well one can only hope.

I'm watching Ted Nolan on the simoncast right now and just they way he talks gets me excited, ive never been big on the guy but it would be nice to see him back in town and turn some of our players into guys who will get their noses dirty in the corners. he did it to jason dawe and holzinger and i forgot who else he said. he said before he got there dawe wouldnt even slap a cat and he got him slamming into corners fighting for the puck

I didn't give this team much chance before the season even started. It's not a cup contender. I'm tired of half-assed rebuilding efforts that at best will make this a marginal playoff team. It's either spend the bucks and bring in real talent or do it through the draft. The draft looks like our best bet.

I think youre wrong. As a canucks fan, i see your lineup as having maybe the highest potential in the league. This team has no chance of finishing last. and even if they did that does not mean much considering the draft lottery. not to mention look at teams that have tanked in the past to get a certain player(ie. ottawa-daigle) usually that player is not the answer. ovechkin will be good but you cant waste a year trying to get him.

< sarcasm >You mean you don't like half-measures and shoestring fixes? Don't you remember The Glory Days of the Blue and Gold? All those miraculous playoff runs of the '80's? All the half-measures and lame player development?< / sarcasm >

Seriously, they don't have established goaltending, they have a generally soft defense and neither size nor grit nor passion nor first line talent throughout their forward ranks. < sarcasm > How is that not a playoff team? < / sarcasm >

Because the people who are paid to make those determinations have been saying so. Granted, he'll look great as a checking forward under Ruff's tutelage.

i know i'd love to see him on the checking line, throwin' a good 13 goals a year on the board.

"man, he's not doing so great, but wow! imagine his potential!"

(from what i've read people saying, he sounds like he'll be pretty good)

In all honesty, Zhitnik IS a soon to be UFA, and the sooner we trade him, the better value we will get. However, it remains to be seen WHO would take over his spot. McKee can log some serious minutes, as could Kalinin, but could they do it as consistently as Zhitnik?

McKee doesn't skate well enough to log serious minutes. His stride is so inefficient he runs out of gas doing things that barely cause Kalinin, Tallinder, Zhitnik and Campbell to break a sweat. If McKee was capable of logging a ton of ice time he'd be getting it. He's basically a younger version of Murray Baron.

I just don't see how trading Zhitnik would get us in the Ovechkin derby?

Since the post if about Darren Hatcher being out, like getting a Red Wing first round pick would help in this? No....don't think so.

Explain exactly how we may aquire a pick that could end up in the top 5 range?

Dawe and Plante turned into gritty players under Nolan? Sure.
