Mark Jeanneret is no longer with the team.... Brent Marcotte was named Director of Communications and Team Services. Spoke with Brian Petrovek by telephone today said the team is planning to outsource their radio broadcast. If no takers will explore other options. Also, looking at TV with Time Warner Cable.

I'll have something a little later today.

Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates will have a new play-by-play voice in the fall.

Maybe?

The Pirates announced on Friday that Brent Marcotte will become the team’s new Director of Media and Team Services replacing those duties held by Mark Jeanneret.

Looks like no Yonkman in Portland as he's signed with Florida.

I suppose that would leave him in San Antonio.

Another Maine-Pirates-(Bruins, sorry) fan stopping in to say hi. I suppose we'll be seeing a Coyotes banner flying in the rafters next season. Its an interesting change, thats for sure. Anyways, hopefully this works out for the best!

Coyotes sign Bolduc
Published on: 4th July, 2011 by Chris Roy

Quote:
Portland, ME — When free agency opened on Friday it didn’t take the Phoenix Coyotes long to jump into the fray by signing several players including Raffi Torres, Mike Smith and former Pirate Boyd Gordon.

On Saturday, Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced the signing of forward Alex Bolduc to a one-year, two-way contract.

I heard Portland wanted to partner up with Florida, but Florida wanted SA. So they settled with Phoenix. Any truth to this?

Capgeek has McElhinney's contract up.

Big $$ in the A. $225K - he is a capable AHL tender and provides depth if injuries occur in Phoenix.

Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates have also had a knack for having good goaltending throughout their history going back to the inaugural season with Byron Dafoe and Olaf “Olie the Goalie” Kolzig to last season with Jhonas Enroth and David Leggio.

Also signed is defenseman Tyler Eckford.

Florida and Phoenix were the two candidates to come to Portland... I'm not sure if Florida wanted San Antonio or not. I have think they were interested in coming here because of Dineen and the reduced travel within the league. I feel it was a financially motivated move in Phoenix ultimately ending up with Portland.

A vet I'd like to see on the shuttle between Portland and Phoenix - Steve Begin.

Tons of experience and good value on a two way deal.

Dustin Boyd is another vet that would ideally sign in Portland, with the expectation that he could see some time in Phoenix.

Tip and the Don have tried to build a culture where the performers on the farm get the call when needed - in theory this should encourage some of the strong AHL vets and tweeners to look toward the Phoenix organization.

Edit: Another name to kick around - Troy Bodie. Big fella that played for Truitt in junior and spent a little time in SA the year Edwards took over. Having said that I'm sure Bodie isn't planning on spending too much time on the farm.

May's contract has expired and he is an Unrestricted Free Agent. Based on the signing of Tyler Eckford today and the organization's depth, the odds of May being resigned are relatively remote.

With 14 or 15 contracts on the books for the blue line May might be invited to camp to battle (again) with Ross and Brodeur for the depth (5,6,7) spots.

I suppose there's also the possibility he signs an AHL contract with Portland.

I suspect retirement for Steve Begin. didnt seems interested to play in the AHL and wasnt happy about his situation last year.

As for Dustin Boyd, he has signed in the KHL.

Phoenix signed defenseman Nathan Oystrick to a one-year, two-way deal.... No terms known yet.

Very nice pick up... He was tied for second among defensemen in the AHL with 15 goals. Tied TJ Brennan. He also has some grit with 125PIM's could see him as a QB on the PP and someone getting heavy mins.

Really like this signing, he should add nicely to the blueline, what his scoring touch, and add some middleweight grit to the team as they promised. It does seems like we really will be rolling a edgy team this year, it what we need.

from watching most of his youtube fights he can handle him self really well so thats good.

Looks like a great signing - Schlemko had better be prepared for some competition for the 6-7 spot based on this guys stats and edge.

Goncharov and/or Stone will be getting alot less time on the PP.

Edit: I see Matt Watkins re-upped for another year.

AHL's new alignment keeps Portland in the Atlantic Division which is now comprised of Portland, Manchester, St. John's, Worcester and Providence.

A shade more travel having to travel to Newfoundland but much less than out west.

Parrish was good for Portland last year was he not? Would be a good two-way signing as a backup ala Ebbett

He was great... He had a bit of a slow start, but his work with the younger players really paid dividends by the end of the season. Not only that.... He was a cheap pickup signing with Buffalo for only 105k at the AHL level. Of course he's still collecting a cool million on his buyout from Minny.

Oystrick spent some time with Atlanta - our new Atlanta posters might be able to give us some insight.

Just finished speaking with Pirates GM Brad Treliving and he confirmed not only the signing of Nathan Oystrick, but that they've signed Dean Arsene to a one-year deal.

Who doesn't like the look of this defense now.....

Garrett Stafford
Nathan Oystrick
Dean Arsene
Tyler Eckford
Oliver Ekman-Larsson -- ?? We'll see what Phoenix does.
Max Goncharov
Mike Stone
Chris Summers
Mathieu Brodeur
