Lets just say, LA and Doughty can't come to terms and LA decide to trade him. What can Doughty cost on the trade market? Make your offers.

On a side note, as a habs fan, if LA is interested to trade him to Montreal, what can the Kings ask for?

From Ottawa it would be Jared Cowen, Matt Puempel, our 1st next year and Milan Michalek.

I was thinking along the lines of Karlsson to get LA to trade Doughty to OTT.

Panthers, if we were interested.

1st round pick 2012, Gudbranson/Kulikov, then another good prospect. Still probably not enough.

A living ****ton... Id give them
Grossman Glennie Larsen '12 first and pretty much anything else they asked for except for Benn/Eriksson/Goligoski from dallas

On second thought they can have goligoski if they really want likely eriksson too

Have waded into this water before.
DD is worth more to the Kings than the likely package in return.
He IS NOT going anywhere... unless, for some reason, he really, really wants out of LA, and says either deal me like I say, or give me a one year qualifier to become UFA next season. I think that's what applies in his case, not sure.

To answer OP's question, it would be more than the four firsts in value that competition would yield.
Gaborik would not be definite, but makes sense, among other reasons, because it is a large salary coming for a large salary going.
LA wants Fs, so probably Boyle or Stepan, maybe both if Kings throw back the other way.
Kings have plenty of D, but might want one body to be a backliner to keep their depth. Kings will take less and demand Staal, but are rebuffed. NYR offers Girardi.

Those would be the key assets, assuming NYR can negotiate a deal upfront beforehand.
Doughty [possible +]
for
Garborik, Boyle or Stepan, and Girardi, [+/-].

If we're talking a future type package for Doughty (this is hockeysfuture afterall), I'd put his value at 4 first round picks (which can obviously be substituted for prospects of first round caliber). For instance Florida could offer Kulikov or Gudbranson, Bjugstad, Howden and their 2012 first (and still have a pretty solid prospect pool I might add).

For this package NY will receive Jack Johnson, but not Drew Doughty

Hmmm, I would do that, if Tallon really wanted Doughty

NYR stand firm.
Would offer less for Johnson, who would be great addition.
If logic says Kings would take the best offer, especially since this is not only not a surrender of Doughty to a division rival where he comes back to hurt you several games a year, but is one moving him out of conference, then the question becomes what better offer could you get?

You Habs fans are not going to like this but to get the calibre of Doughty, you're going to have to throw in Subban along with picks.
No sense in Price as Quick has played well.

it would have to be a superstar for superstar trade

Think Nash or Parise for example

I would say the fair values for DD are Nash, Parise, Stamkos or Malkin

Which one of these players (Flippula, Hudler, Kindl or Emmerton)
qualify to be a superstar?
LA is very deep team and doest not need quantity.

your absolutely right LA would laugh and hang up the phone.

Inorder for DD to be in a Wings jersey detroit would have to either

a) grow some ball and offer him a massive offer sheet and surrender the picks as Detroit will pick betwene 20-30 each of the next four years and their is a 1% chance any of those picks ever turn out to be as good as DD

or

b) offer a pckg that included either Zettererberg or Franzen plus Kindl plus prospect plus late round pick

ex Franzen plus Kindl plus Tatar plus 3rd round pick for DD plus some bum

ex Zetterberg plus Kindl plus Sheahan plus 5th round pick for DD plus Brown

Nash and Parise shouldn't be in the same sentence as Stamkos and Malkin.

1. LA will match your massive offer sheet.
2. None of your three packages will convince Kings to trade DD

Parise should be, IMO he is a top 5 winger in the game, while Stamkos and Malkin are top 5 or so centers in the game. Malkin has not been the same player over the past couple of years though.
