(Part 3) Richards/Carter traded: Class of 2003

Opening a new thread as the old one was closed. I don't feel we're quite done mourning and/or celebrating this yet. (depending where you sit)

The old thread was here

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=932265

Hopefully a sticky^^

I'll be whining/crying in the forums about this trade for a long time

(Well, until Couturier/Schenn turn into godly figures)

We've still got the man that was drafted higher than both of them: Braydon Coburn.

These trades plus the Gagne trade will make me jaded for a long time. At this point I don't care who they trade, when they trade, where they trade or how they trade players on this team.

Win a cup or GTFO you piece of *****.

Coburn helped on "The Shift"

But Mike Richards is what gives me chills here. (Well that and the epic music man )

Honestly, I would say jaded is the perfect word to describe myself over all of this myself. I honestly think this franchise needs to be in someone elses hands (whether it be GM or as high as ownership if need be). This new "direction" is half-baked.

I will NEVER forget that shift. At that moment, I felt like Richards would will us to the Cup if he had to.

I'm still in disbelief. I've been trying the whole week to justify the moves to myself, but I can't yet.

That is probably my strongest memory of Richards. Just shows his game perfectly.
Gives me chills. God damn it, I'm gonna miss him come October.

I could live with Carter gone, I sort of expected it, but Richards? I still can't swallow that one.

I'd like to know where that Richards went for the 2010-2011 season.

He went under the knife after the season due to a/some cartilage tears in his wrist.

I'd hazard to guess that played a factor.

Might take a while, but it will be fun to look back and read it all again next June after the Flyers beat the Kings for the cup

Oh come now Opy.

Injuries shouldn't matter, and don't count. Professional athletes are supposed to be robots. Anything less than perfection, regardless of the reason, is unacceptable. (also see: Jeff Carter).

However, we did see a bit of that Richards, despite fighting a wrist injury, when he dove to block a shot at the end of a game the Flyers had no chance to win. I'm sure that was by accident though.

Athletes shouldn't be expected to give it their all. Richards was doing too much.

I understand that, and that would account for his low goal total, but since when is your wrist connected to your heart?

I was honestly going to flame you, but I think what I was going to say would invite my first infraction. So i'll just let Samel L Jackson explain my emotions.

Not from this guy. I always had love for Richards and Carter, call me an "apologist"...I appreciate core members who are key contributors to staying competitive/successful. It seems to be a dying appreciation.

It's not.

Pierre McGuire owns his heart.

I tear up now when I watch this. So sad what that man did for us during the Stanley Cup run. It just wasnt enough and now hes gone.
