absolutely terrible defensively, great shot but i felt like the PP strategy didn't utilize him enough. specifically i remember watching them circle the puck around during the PP against the caps in the playoffs and there were a few times where mccabe just seemed like he was told not to shoot.
for really cheap i would like to have him back as a guy who would be a healthy scratch and maybe step in if one of the younger guys (mdz, v-tank) doesn't step up.

Based on Valentenko's zero NHL games?

He couldn't even help Hartford's PP..

I don't understand. Is the strength of his shot going to be harder or weaker depending on what league he plays in? I like that apparently you feel the entire onus for Hartford's PP success or failure is shouldered by one defenseman.

My point was not to suggest that Valentenko was some sort of PP phenom, but rather that he's no worse an option than McCabe, since the only thing that McCabe does is shoot the puck hard. As far as I recall, McCabe didn't help our PP much, either.

I am not against it, as long as it's for a tryout, Competition at camo is good,

yes he has a hard shot. clearly it doesn't result in any offense though.

no please no

McCabe was slower than the Zamboni

He has one move on defense, the can opener and that results in a penalty more often than not.

no no no

Let me beat the kids out of spot to earn one. If he can't he can't. That will provide for more competition, better hocky, The winner gets the roster spot.

This again. LOL

I was all for VTank playing last year, and I'm down for him getting some regular season minutes as well.

Besides, he actually hits. Body checking.

there's more to being a shooter than shooting the puck hard. McCabe can still launch it with the best of them.

I think signing McCabe to a reasonable 1 year deal is the Rangers' best bet, as he is an experienced d-man who can contribute to the PP.
Anyone they sign should have both those qualities.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo Thank you. I really want to see MDZ-Erixon-Valentenko as our 5,6,7. If they split time on the bottom 6 pairing, that can still be 55 games a piece which will be great for their game in my opinion. As long as Torts isn't giving them 12 minutes a night.

Are there talks of bringing McCabe back? With Gilroy leaving does anyone think it'd be good to keep him around?

Wait, are there sources that suggest Sather is talking with his agent about returning?

Or are we speculating?

That, and he can mentor our young defense, and maybe help groom Del Zotto a little..thoughts?
i like him,but would only bring him back depending on price and after we lock down cally,Dubie,AA and Sauer ofcourse.

For the most part unimpressed with his season last year seems done to me doesn't Skate very hard. Keep him Only if you have to give up a Sauer or Mcdonaugh to get a 1st line Winger.
