I must say the number of decent prospects is at an long-time low, probably since the 2004 draft. Our top prospects, on the strength of the acquisition of Erixon and the emergence of McD and Thomas, are still great, but the number of second-tier prospects is lower than ever since the rebuild began.
I disagree 100%.

I think you'll feel differently by the mid-season ranking, as a lot of the guys we just drafted will be establishing themselves and good prospects and becoming household names.
I think you may be right. I can't jump on the bandwagon of St. Croix and McColgan (even though I was the first person here who said we should draft him) because I would want them to take a further step forward in their development. Same for Fogarty.
I don't think by the next round of voting in February, we will have more exciting prospects, though we may have more exciting young players, including those who graduated. That's because McDonagh and Zuccarello will graduate by then, to be replaced in the top half a dozen by some of the following: Fasth, Hagelin, St. Croix, McColgan, Fogarty, Valentenko or Kundratek.
At the same time, I would expect one or more of these to get worse just because everyone can't have a great season. So if, for example, someone like Valentenko shows himself unable to play in the NHL, he will suddenly drop in rankings. Likewise, if one of the new prospects has a bad season in juniors, he will drop.
Thus, I would expect that the top-10 will remain very strong, but the subsequent bunch ranked 11-20 will be the weakest it has been in a while.
Reasons: teams needs scoring, Ws, expect Hagelin most versatile of those closest available.
Lindberg face off is valued; Boyle moved to W or traded.
Pashnin need to get PMD, regardless of if MDZ return to form.
Since we are spending $$ (and we should) to keep our UFAs, the issue will be if we need to make a move for cap space, Girardi is the most likely to be both desired by a trade partner and a significant enough hit [3.x m]
At this point we don't need to move Girardi for cap, but it could be down the road... so again, Pashnin, Parlett and others move up.
