‘deeply offended’ by columnist

Not sure if this was already posted.
I was wondering if Burkie was going to have a response towards Simmons.

I really wish Burke would boycott individual members of the Toronto sports media... Simmons should be the first in line.

Does anyone else have a burning desire to punch him in the face whenever they see him on TV?

Any respect I had for Simmons pretty much dissapeared with his poorly thought out remarks of Burke.

The fact is Richards was heavily inclined to the Rangers from the beginning, just as everyone suspected. As such, I doubt Burke being here would have had any major impact on Richards' decision

And yet if Burke signed Richards to a 9 year NM contract, I'm sure Simmons would have ripped him for that.

I understand trying to stir something up, but when it involves such a delicate topic like supporting the troops when you know you have reliable people you can count on back in Toronto (Nonis, Fletcher, Louiselle, Poulin, Dudley), then go right ahead. People like Simmons are ****en idiots.

Yeah. Isn't he the journalist who questioned Burkes ability to continue working effectively in an article after Brendan's death?

And now this. It just shows his lack of integrity and shame.

Simmons wrote an article saying Richards wouldn't sign in Toronto. He then goes and rips Burke for being "present" while a big push was made for Brad.

It doesn't matter if Burke was here or not Brad Richards made his mind up long before July 1st he wanted to go to the Rangers and like Burke said he was asked and he said yes...it's not like he's begging to go to Afghanistan to get PR.

Luke Schenn went too does that mean we Leaf fans should criticize him: "Hey Luke, wtf are you doing? You're supposed to be training"

No..they have a life outside of hockey and we have ENOUGH management to take over for Burke and...Simmons finally knows Skype exists.

Absolutely ridiculous. And not that it really matters, but I wonder if he even took a moment to think about the fact that the Rangers didn't even bother going to meet with him personally at all.

Good on Burke for going.

Simmons and people of his ilk are pond scum. Its nice that upper management is realizing that now.

Visiting the troops was a great thing to do as an individual, and I have plenty of appreciation for anyone who will do that, and I'm sure he was in communication the whole time, but I can't say that from a job point of view that the Toronto Maple Leafs interests were enhanced with him being away, Richards or no Richards.

I'm with those who think the mission in Afghanistan is a big mistake. But even I think criticizing Burke for going there is idiotic.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even bad ones, but what bothers me about Simmons is he can't admit he was wrong. He has no basis for concluding Burke couldn't do his job from Afganistan and his furthered veiled negative comments on the Leafs moves of late on twitter pretty much show just how small a man he really is.

I trust Dave Nonis equally as much as I trust Brian Burke. Nonis is great, and I'd feel calm with Nonis carrying the torch even if Burke left for a whole year.

I think this whole argument is practically shot down. I think what most people have a problem with is that it seemed like an "unnecessary PR move". But now that he has stated that he was asked to go, I think that changes everything... He really can't say no.

I agree with one of the poster above... It is ridiculous that Simmons won't admit that perhaps he was wrong, the guy is too headstrong.

Simmons is a loser...likely Howard Berger's lover

I have so much respect for Burke, from his trip to how he supported his son. Good guy

My favourite part of the article: “They ask you to go,” said Burke, who was joined on the trip by Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn.

This kid is going no where. Burke loves him. We love him. New contract coming up...

Burke should have waived his magic wand & all the top players available would sign in Toronto.

all Simmons does is criticize the Leafs at every turn.

As stated 1932490584 times on this board...the team that got him didn't even make the trip to Toronto.

Richards was going to NY regardless of where Burke was, so Simmons can suck it

Simmons questioning the professional integrity of a guy like Burke is so pathetic and laughable, it barely warrants comment. One more reason to stop buying the Toronto Sun. I despise 90% of local sports media for this very reason. Simmons is as irrelevant as Berger. Actually, even more. Arrogant pissant...
