Salary Arbitration (Callahan on July 28, Dubinsky signs before hearing)

The Rangers have 4 eligible players. Ryan Callahan,Brandon Dubinsky,Brian Boyle and Michael Sauer. In the case of Sauer,he has 4 years of pro experience which is the minimum level of experience requirement for salary arbitration. 2007-08. 08-09. 09-10. 10-11.

The players have until 5pm today to file for salary arbitration.

The Rangers can elect to take a player to salary arbitration on July 6.

Once these players file for salary arbitration, they are no longer eligible for offer sheets.

Artem Anisimov is not eligible for salary arbitration. He only has 3 pro years. AA played 07-08 as a 19 year old in Hartford which meant his contract slid. AA has 3 years pro. 08-09. 09-10. 10-11. Looks like AA will sign soon

Quote:
Look for the market for centers to pick up once Richards signs. RFA Artem Anisimov will re-sign with Rangers once Richards deal is done.
https://twitter.com/#!/andystricklan...70444364492800

The Rangers having more than 1 arbitration case opens up a 2nd buyout window for them

Quote:
11.18 Ordinary Course Buy-Outs Outside the Regular Period. Clubs shall have the
right to exercise Ordinary Course Buy-Outs outside the regular period for Ordinary
Course Buy-Outs in accordance with Paragraph 13(c)(ii) of the SPC. Each Club shall be
limited to no more than three (3) such buyouts over the term of this Agreement pursuant
to Paragraph 13(c)(ii) of the SPC. However, in the event that a Club has only one salary
arbitration hearing pursuant to Section 12.3(a) in a given League Year, such Club shall
not be entitled to exercise such a buyout outside the regular period for Ordinary Course
Buy-Outs
. No Club shall exercise an Ordinary Course Buy-out outside the regular period
for any Player earning less than $1 million.
Larry Brooks has written 1 case opens up the 2nd window. Looking at 11.18. It's more than one.

This is Paragraph 13(c)(ii) of the SPC

Quote:
(ii) For Clubs who have Club or Player elected Salary Arbitration filings
pursuant to Article 12, within the forty-eight (48) hour period beginning on the third day
following the later of: (i) the Club's receipt of its last salary arbitration award; or (ii) settlement
of its last case (provided such award was received or such settlement occurred after 7:00 p.m.
New York time; awards or settlements that occurred or were received after 7:00 p.m. New York
time will be deemed to have occurred or received the following business day for purposes of this
provision).
Filings. More than 1. The 2nd buyout window opens the Rangers last arbitration case is settled or an award is issued.

Exhibit 15. CBA critical dates

Quote:
July 20 First Day of Salary Arbitration Hearings

August 4 Last Day of Salary Arbitration Hearings

August 6 Last Day for Issuance of Salary Arbitration Awards

48 hours after Club's last salary
arbitration award or settlement Deadline for such Club's Second Buy-Out Period [Only
for Clubs with Salary Arbitration Cases]
Glen Sather said during the Brad Richards conference call that the Rangers will re-sign their group II's within the next couple of weeks. The Rangers could re-sign their 4 arb eligible players before the hearings begin on July 20 and then have 48 hours to complete another buyout if they want. It's not automatically August which has been written. This is the same media which didn't realize Chris Drury could be bought out without going on waivers.

RangerBoy, do you work for an NHL team or at least NHL-related organization (such as the media)? If not, why not?

In any case, thanks for what you do.

I don't think any of these actually get to arbitration all should be settled prior to their hearings.

It will be interesting to see if they use the 2nd window. WW seems like the only real possibility, and only then if they have something else (trade) in place for a top 6LW.

After doing some extensive detective work regarding the breaking news around the Tim Erixon trade/signing (and a plethora of other useful information RB has supplied), I can now confirm that RangerBoy is Glen Sather. Sorry RB - the secret is out...

guy i'd be most concerned about filing for arbitration is boyle. he'd get a raise based on his 20 goals last season, and that likely gets him alot more $$ then if we negotiated with him.

It would be interesting if none of the players file for arbitration and the Rangers don't file on anyone. At one point, I had decided that had a good possibility of happening, but as someone else said... don't think Sather would close the window of further flexibility if he wanted it.

Arbitration creates pressure points to get a contract completed. The Rangers will sign them before their hearing dates. All of the eligible players should file. Re-sign AA. Look to move Christensen. Don't let this stuff linger.

Great to hear, sounds like he'll be locked up before the 20th.

Brooks also just tweeted that these arbitration filings will "trigger a second buyout period for the Rangers." Wolski?

It's not "AGAIN". Last time Duby had no arbitration rights. Him filing is a good thing. It lets us negotiate with him until the 20th without anyone being able to potentially offer sheet him. A deal will most likely be reached before arbitration begins on the 20th. Sather doesn't want to go to arbitration. Callahan will also probably file and if he doesn't, the Rangers will probably file for him, along with Sauer and Boyle.

He never filed for arbitration before. He's still 2+ months away from being a holdout. Oh, and Callahan filed for arbitration last time, and probably will this time. Does that make him a bad guy too?

I swear, some of you are determined to villianize Dubinsky because of the holdout, despite the fact that it has absolutely zero impact on anything. It's a business. Get over it.

RT @AGrossRecord: Agent says Ryan Callahan will file for arbitration today unless Rangers submit offer before 5 o'clock deadline.

With them filing for arbitration it means they can't sign offer sheet right?

Yes, that's why filing is a good thing for the club. It allows us to negotiate a contract with them until the hearings begin on the 20th, without other teams interfering with offer sheets.

Thanks, looks like Boyle as well.

AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Brian Boyle also to file for arbitration, along with Dubinsky and most likely Callahan.

My 2 cents, everyone but Duby will DEFINITELY be signed before their arbitration hearing. Not a knock on Duby, but I feel that he and his agent could potentially play hardball and take it to arbitration. Not that Duby can't be signed before, but I think the chances of Duby signing before are 40% and 60% he doesn't
