I guess you haven't noticed, buy you're the only one in this thread complaining about Dubi electing arbitration. Callahan is going to elect arbitration too. You gonna complain about that, or does he get a pass because he didn't hold out 2 years ago?

I believe the team has the option of making the arbitration award 1 or 2 years, but in either case, arbitration does not affect UFA status. Cally and Boyle are both 1 year from UFA, so they will be UFA after their next contract regardless. Dubi is 2 years from UFA, so if he were to take a 1 year arbitration award, he would still be RFA next year.

slightly higher cap hit then i was hoping for giving comparable players...but not a bad deal for cally or dubi to get them locked up for 5 years.

Um im upset that anyone files for arbitration, especially these to because if they get 2 yr contract then they are UFA, and im sure Dubinsky would love to test the market. Nobody is signing them to offer sheets anyway because they know we would match and we have the cap room too.

So we shall see how quickly people change their tune on this if they hearing goes through and they realize Callahan or Dubinsky will be a UFA in the next season or two. Instead of locking them up long term right now.

they will get signed before the hearing. this is a non-issue. it blocks offer sheets and opens the 2nd buyout window.

The plan is to lock them up before the hearing. The team has said as much in recent days.

What the team says and what the player/agent says are two different things though.

Obviously the team wants them locked up, but we have seen Dubinsky hold out before, for anyone to think its a 100% lock that he will sign before his hearing is fooling them self. Nobody wants that to happen but im thinking worse case scenario which could happen.

Well based on Dubinsky's break up day comments, "I want them and they want me, I want to get it done quickly this time around", I'm confident it will get done unless his agent brainwashes him.

It's definitely not a lock.

I understand the worst case scenario mentality, I'm typically there myself. But filing for arbitration in itself is not a bad happening. It actually reduces the amount of things that can go wrong.

Just so everyone can see it:

@AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Brian Boyle also to file for arbitration, along with Dubinsky and most likely Callahan.

Ok, so when do we hold "Fire RangerBoy" rally?

P.S. It's not true that Sather never won us the Cup. Those who were around in 1994 know full well that he was instrumental.

For those who were not, what do all of the following have in common:

1. Mark Messier
2. Adam Graves
3. Esa Tikkanen
4. Glenn Anderson
5. Craig MacTavish
6. Jeff Beukeboom
7. Kevin Lowe

So as you see, Glenn was instrumental in training many of the Rangers who were key in helping us win the Cup.

Dubi is not going to hold out this time. If they dont reach a deal, he will just go to arbitration.
He didn't have arbitration rights last time, which is why Sather was trying to low ball him.

I'm confident that deals will be worked out with all three before arbitration. Sather isn't stupid and let it come to a one year deal for Callahan buying not a single UFA year. This also protects them from offer-sheets and there will be no holdouts. So arbitration certainly has its positives, too.

There seems to be a misconception here. Once you file for arbitration, you are essentially a signed player. By exercising your arbitration right, you give up the opportunity to pursue an offer sheet and if your case isn't settled before arbitration (most are) then you and the team are bound by the abritrator's decision. It's that simple.

Sets a comparable precedent. IMO, a good one for the Rangers.

Andrew Ladds' new deal should set a good precedent for Dubinsky and Callahan. Ladd is a cup winner, the team captain and had 29 goals and 59 points last season. He's 5 months older than Dubinsky and 9 months younger than Callahan. In age order:

Callahan: 60 games 23 goals 48 points 26 years old "A"
Ladd: 81 games 29 goals 59 points 25 years old "C"
Dubinsky: 77 games 24 goals 54 points 25 years old

Career Totals:

Callahan: 284 games 76 goals 144 points
Ladd: 402 games 92 goals 208 points
Dubinsky: 316 games 71 goals 179 points

With Ladd getting 4.4M and being almost a year younger than Callahan, only a few months older than Dubinsky and playing a fairly similar game while captaining his team, it would be hard for Dubinsky or Callahan to look for more. Ladd has similar intangibles, similar yearly numbers, and is the same age. Not that we didn't already think in the 4.2M range for our guys, but this should help keep the number from getting above that.

TSN has a partial list

Quote:
Other notable names who have filed for arbitration include, Sabres defenceman Andrej Sekera, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Teddy Purcell, and New York Islanders forward Blake Comeau, as well as New York Rangers forwards Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky and Brian Boyle.
