Anyone else not see Fehr/Schultz/Perreault being dealt prior to training camp? I really think that the available NHL-ready depth will make a difference in what they're looking to get in return...

I think if Perrault was sought after at all, he would have been gone already this offseason...

Fehr unlikely because of injury. Schultz and Semin...I still have faint hope, otherwise I don't see much of a culture change happening...

Trade Schultz to cap off a great off-season.

I'm OK with Schultz as a third-pairing guy, but his salary is too expensive for third pairing. Ditto with Chimera. I'm actually a big Chimera fan (I'm the idiot who's always yelling "FINISH YOUR CHECK, CHIMERA" during otherwise silent stretches at VC) but that's too much money for fourth line. I don't see him getting the second-line minutes anymore this year, what with the acquisition of Brouwer and Ward. Maybe third line, but with one of Brouwer or Ward slotted there, he doesn't really add anything (maybe takes a little away due to his stone hands).

If Fehr really is projected to be ready to start the season, then I think a trade is still possible with him. If he's not ready to start the season, there won't be any takers. What I'm really hoping for is some sort of package of Schultz/Fehr/Perreault/Chimera/picks that nets one top-6 roster player. Doubt it'll happen, but I can see a team that has depth at C and needs depth at other positions being willing to trade quality for quantity. CBJ? They know they're not making a cup run (although they are trying to get into the playoffs) - so the depth would serve them better? Not sure of other teams who may be in the same situation.

I posted this near the end of the last thread, so I'm reposting it here:

In-season cap max for 2011-12: $64,300,000
Off-season cap max: 110% of $64,300,000 = $70,730,000

110% overage isn’t as simple as adding up a 23 player roster. This was more of an issue last summer with Nylander and Collins counting against the off-season cap hit, especially Nylander because the percentage of the overage space he took up with his cap hit had the potential to impact some off-season movement, but for clarification:

The Off-season 110% cap calculation includes the following:

- ALL players on one-way contracts. This season not much of an issue since Beagle and King are already accounted for in most scenarios, but even if someone plans to demote one or both, until (if) it happens before the season starts, they count against the cap this off-season (when there’s the 10% extra space.)

- Buyout cap hits (i.e., Sloan's 233,333 buyout cap hit)

- ALL RFA QOs – Prorated based on time on NHL roster previous season; for Alzner ($826,875) and Brouwer ($1,050,000) – they count at 100% of their QOs until the QOs expire or a contract is agreed to for each player. Obviously, once there’s a contract that’s the cap hit which will count. For Perreault, his RFA QO NHL salary counts pro-rated based on days on the NHL roster last season. (Also, G.O.D., Perreault’s QO should have been for $715,000 based on his ’10-11 NHL salary and the required 110% offer based on that salary.) He was on the roster for a little less than half the season.

- For other players under contract who spent time in the NHL and AHL, pro-rated NHL salary based on days on NHL roster last season counts against the off-season cap calculation…this includes Holtby, Aucoin, Patrick McNeill, Sean Collins, Potulny, and Sabourin. I haven’t done the math, but the 6 players combined pro-rated cap hit should be less than $500,000, I think it's actually less than $400,000 but I haven't run the detailed numbers.

So, estimating only, the current off-season cap hit calculation for the Washington Capitals is approximately $66,300,000.

Obviously, these numbers change as other changes are made including RFAs signing contracts.

I like chimmer. Im watching the replays of the rabgers series on nhl net right now and hes actually one of the role players who even show up. On another note the comeback from being down 3-0 in game four is awesome.

Not really, just would have been nice to have here in Washington. It didn't get a full "dagger" so it can't be that bad

Caps could deal Semin

Alexander Semin | Capitals

Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press suggests the Washington Capitals are looking to move forward Alexander Semin.

Tait adds that the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs are all said to be interested in Semin.

There has also been chatter that a potential deal for the winger could involve defenseman Zach Bogosian of the Winnipeg Jets.

The thought of what Alex Semin's face would look like the instant he was told he just got traded to Winnipeg makes me actually laugh out loud.

He'd be on the next flight to Russia.

DO NOT WANT to see Semin anywhere near Pennsylvania, unless Malkin/Crosby/Staal is coming back, and they aren't.

Nobody on the Leafs really interests me... as far as the other teams go:
Canadiens: Camalleri
Predators: Fisher
Sharks: Pavelski
Jets: Ladd

I'm not a big Bogosian fan, either.
So out of the four options that I like, I can only realistically see 1.5 happening (Camalleri, MAYBE Fisher).

Am I overlooking anyone? Caps aren't really hurting for D.

Ok, I'll play:
-Semin for Cammalleri
-Semin for Hornqvist
-Semin for...Philly doesn't work
-Semin+ for Staal
-Semin+ for Pavelski
-Semin for Kulemin
-Semin+ for Evander Kane

Come to think of it I'd be OK with Giroux.

Never going to happen, but if you get Bogosian no reason you can't flip Wideman (or Wideman+Schultz, if the market's there for that big a deal).

I've always been a fan of Bogo, but I thought the common thinking was that he was no longer on the outs with the new ownership/management/etc.?

Hahaha.... any team that trades for Semin better be sure he absolutely wants to be there otherwise they're going to see a year of him just floating around

That list of teams though....

The Preds are really the only one that makes sense.

Flyers and Pittsburgh don't have the room unless they make moves (Pittsburgh in particular, the only players that could clear enough salary are Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Orpik, Martin, Michalek, maybe Staal - see them trading any of them to us?)

The Leafs biggest need is a 1C, they probably want to save their assets to see what they can in that regard.

The Sharks don't have the room either do, they?

Actually, the Habs make some sense also...

I still think this is going to be like the past couple summers, where we hear a bunch of rumors and nothing happens...

Hornqvist, Kulemin, Pavelski are all in the yes column, big time.

I honestly have no idea what kind of + Winnipeg would be looking for for Kane. I love the kid, but I think they'd be looking for a lot more.

Not so big on Cammalleri, and I really don't see Pittsburgh and Washington trading such big pieces to each other.

But those first three... DROOL.
