Redden will report to camp

Didn't see this posted anywhere.

http://mobile.newsday.com/inf/infomo...ed:i=1.3003425

Quote:
That's the word from Don Meehan, Redden's agent, via email today. "We'll continue to work on his situation," Meehan wrote, "but the plans are to be at New York's training camp in September."
Maybe if he finds a team willing to sign him, he'll change his mind, but doubt he'll take the chance on just a tryout.

Just GTFO, Wade. Have fun in Hartford for another year.

Yes, it was reported a couple days ago that he would report to camp. He'll be sent down afterwards and collect his 6.5M to ride the bus.

No surprise there.

Guy's happy riding buses and collecting his millions.

His career is over.

Not surprised by this. I dont see how a team would want to trade for him based on a good camp.

Wow talk about ONLY being in it for the money. Certainly a downside when you sign NAs...

Could be no European team wants to sign him. Or maybe his agent is too lazy to try--or maybe he's decided he likes bus rides or maybe it's just $6.5 mil.

You don't think a scrub 3rd pairing swedish guy would stay in Hartford for 6 million dollars?

The guy has a very young daughter. He is making 6.5 million/year to play a game. I would totally take that for a couple of seasons....

I would of been surprised if he actually didn't report. Way too much money to give up. Playing hockey in Hartford is not that bad of a job.

Good move for Wade and the Rangers...

at least there's a chance of Sather trading him to Florida if he's manning up and doing what he has to do... I give the guy credit. Its a humble day he walks into that training camp....

I think he may try to make the team again. If that fails (a certainty), the NYR assign him to Hartford... he may then walk away and void his contract.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part but I think the guy is gonna give it one last shot. He probably feels he owes it to himself.

who wouldnt trade places with him right now

the guy has to report and give it a shot. cant blame him and dont feel bad for him one bit considering hes making about 125k per week to play ice hockey but i gotta say, i give hi some props. gotta be tough for a guy to go through that.

with that contract, hes like dead man walking.

i give him a zero chance of making the team but hes still doing pretty well for himself.

Have Sather call Dale Tallon, and ask him to give him a draft pick, a new hockey puck for Glen's office and a rubber rat for Redden. I'm sure Tallon won't decline

His cap hit is prohibitive. Even if he looked like Bobby Orr reincarnated, we'd have to jump through lots of hoops to squeeze him under the cap.

Doesn't pay into NHL escrow, so he actually collects more money playing in the AHL.

I can't see how he could be added to the roster once RFAs get their awards barring some shockingly low arbitration decisions or buyout/departure of Wolski.

We all know he's headed down to HFD, but let's give the guy credit for being a good teammate and person while he's down there, he has done a lot of good for the kids and guys down there. He's getting paid millions but he has gone out of his way to get guys iPads and bought the guys nicer meals while he's there.

He's a pacer on the ice, at the ahl level even, lots of players get bad contracts and arent quality citizens away from the rink, there aren't that many in hockey, but lets keep perspective on the matter, there's no point in getting the blood pressure up when it was known that this may happen.

I really have to give Wade some respect. He's not giving up on the NHL and wants to be there again, but we all know that with his salary that can never happen though. He will likely walk away from his contract if he doesn't make it, which because of his cap hit is a certainty. I used to make fun of him as much as the next guy, but based on what the kids who have played with him have said about him, he's been a great mentor and is trying hard to get back to the NHL somehow despite the odds, which is admirable.

If that really is his goal, he will walk away from his contract and take a league minimum salary to play for a lesser team, if there is a contract out there for him. He clearly feels like he's caged in the AHL because that's not where he wants to be. He knows what he has to do if he ever wants to see NHL ice again though.

He's healthy, he can offer some sort of return on the investment being made in him, however little that return may be.

I do not begrudge him showing up.

As long as he understands that there is no room at the inn for him, there will be no issues.

Anything I read about him last year led me to believe that he was trying to work with the younger defenceman in the system, I know some of you may cringe at the thought, but there's a long standing saying about that

"Those that cannot do, teach"

This may be the highest paid player/coach of all time, but if our defenceman can learn to play decent defence because of Redden, then the return on his investment becomes greater than what he offers on the ice himself.

More likely to be an August Buyout than actually make the team.
