Loved the Jagr contract, and even had no real problem with Talbot for 5 years.....But Lilja was a head scratch altogether

OK people, Stamkos is not being traded, so please stop with the "I heard" or "somebody posted'' because there are no trade talks. And before somebody says it, yes, I'm sure teams have called to say, "If you can't sign him, we'd like to talk to you'', those are not talks. It's a process, anybody remember Vinny holding out before his 2nd contract?

I think whatever the result it won't be Yzerman who's held accountable.
So if Yzerman can't sign a 50 goal scorer it can't possibly be his fault, but if Homer can't manage to sign a goalie at Nabokov's level it's obviously his fault?

Erlendsson has been patient and calm throughout the whole process! He has answered almost EVERY question asked about the whole debacle (despite the same question being thrown at him every minute or so). The one thing he maintained throughout the whole process is that there was no scenario in which Stamkos wouldn't be at Tampa next year.

Not sure where you got any of that from.

Imo, the Flyers would have way to much money locked up in the defensive core.

Assuming they offer sheet Doughty for 7.8 (the minimum they'd be able to), the Flyers would have just over 37 million in cap invested in 7 defensmen next season. Compare that to the roughly 29 million in the forwards under contract so far (Talbot included). That proportion is way out of whack and also well over the cap.

Doesn't Carle and coburn come off next season and Kimo the season after that?

As a heads up, discussing moderation on any open forum here is frowned upon.

But yeah...I can't imagine that they'd be happy about outsiders coming in and posting such rumors I can see where they're coming from.

I wish I could possess Dave Tallon and make him offer sheet Stamkos for like 11M a year, and then trade him to Toronto for a 3rd rounder.

Oh sorry did someone delete those posts for me lol thanks to whoever did but there were other teams' fans in there talking about it too and they didn't kick me out. I didn't remember the rules because I was offline on hfboards for a long time until maybe last week but yeah its all good now I guess

Yeah, if I was a TB fan I'd be pretty touchy about the whole Stamkos thing too. I'd have to think it'd be worse for them than the Richards/Carter trade for us.

No doubt. I was just kinda confused because if I'm not mistaken, other teams' fans were in there too and they were talking about it

Haha wishful thinking for you lol but what if he realizes what he just did and then you weren't possessing him anymore and they had Stamkos?

It's not so much that he couldn't get one, it's that he thought Michael Leighton would be enough. BTW, where in my post do I even mention Homer?

5 years at 37M seems pretty reasonable and harmless.

So, what's taking so long?

Stamkos wants to get paid like a legit star forward

Short of requesting a trade, RFA's have practically no leverage.

I'd love to see Stamkos in orange and black, but his salary hit would likely be an opposition which could cripple the organization's chances of building a contending team. Not to take much away from Stammer, but a lot of his points come from playing with St Louis. Any cap hit over 7 - 7.5 starts to inhibit an organization's ability to sign other high-end talent under the cap. Look at Pittsburgh and the Capitals; the signings of Crosby and Malkin has made it nearly impossible for the Penguins to sign other highend forwards and defenseman. A similiar situation exists with the Capitals and Ovechkin's fat salary. If Stammer won't sign in Tampa for 7 - 7.5 cap hit after Tampa took the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Champs to 7 games in the EC Finals, then he wants too much money to play on a contending team..... Sometimes you have to sacrafice a little to earn your chances to win the big prize, lest your big prize is a big fat pay check.
