Because of that, it's not a direct comparable, most especially in the case of 1-year arbitration. It could certainly be brought up, but won't factor much in terms of actual bearing.
Excellent point about the inflationary nature of buying those extra UFA years. How much do we need to inflate our offer to reach a three year settlement do you think?

I'm not so sure Burke is looking to make an offer over three years - he's not sold that MacArthur should be paid like a top-6 forward in this inflated market (which apparently is 4.5M/year). If you want 2 years of Mac's UFA years (2012 and 2013), it will cost you at least 3.5M this year and 4.5M for the following 2.

I say Burke takes the $3.5M/year offer that the arbitrator decides upon. Keep him and re-assess at the trade deadline whether to extend or trade his rights.

Who else are we going to pay $3.5M this year without giving up assets? Drury?

This tweet from Katherine Dolan. Seems like nothing is done yet.

Exactly, he gave us much more than what we paid for last season, where's the thankyou Burkie? Burke's gambling on other players who haven't given us anything yet.

Perspective is a funny thing. In my view, MacArthur owes Burke a lot more than the other way around for putting him in a place to succeed unlike anywhere else he has played before.

I hope MacArthur returns for a reasonable salary but I don't know if there is a player on the team's current roster who gives me more of a vibe of someone who could get complacent with a long term contract. I particularly didn't like that MacArthur looked to be going through the motions in the last few games of the season.

I think the Ladd case does more for Callahan and Dubinsky then MacArthur.

At this point in the day it's likely Mac will file for arbitration, no?

If it's reasonable, Burke will sign the 1 year arbitration win of Mac and worst case scenario, trade him at the deadline on the heels of UFA status.

If it's unreasonable, say, over 4m for 1 year, then Burke undoubtedly walks away because who knows if he can repeat last season and if he doesn't, that becomes pretty untradeable even at the deadline.

Is this an actual deadline - quickly scanned the thread and didn't see exactly what you are talking about.

#NHL signing. #Leafs lock up Clarke Mac Arthur. A 2 year deal believed to be worth 6.5M.

Thank you. Can they still negotiate up to the arbitration hearing or is this not allowed?

YES!!! Not a bad deal and we don't have to wait for a hearing that likely would've awarded him that amount anyways
