New MSG?

Once again, there are discussions about a new Garden. This time across the street at the current post office location

Quote:
The owners of Madison Square Garden...are in talks with two developers to build its fifth incarnation, a block west of its current home atop Pennsylvania Station.

If the project moves forward, a new Garden will rise at the western end of the James A. Farley Post Office, according to executives who have been briefed on the negotiations between the Garden and the developers Stephen M. Ross, chairman of Related Companies, and Steven Roth, chairman of Vornado Realty Trust. The Farley Post Office, bordered by Eighth and Ninth Avenues and 31st and 33rd Streets, is being transformed into a grand new transit hub to be called Moynihan Station
.
The Dolans are still going to renovate the current Garden starting next summer

the last i had heard (before this) was that the plan was simply to renovate the current garden starting in a year or 2...

the one bad thing with the idea of moving the garden across the street like this is the fact that i believe the plan is to build a new penn station under the post office meaning that the new msg would be right above penn station again...

that makes commuting to games really easy, especially if its really cold out but thats also a top reason that the ice is so horrible. i'd rather walk across the street and have slightly better ice...you'll never get great ice cause it isn't on sold ground but take away the extra heat created by penn station will help

Another reason why the ice stinks is because the arena is used for so many events.

On the contrary, when the circus is in town, all the elephants trample the ice to make it more dense -- Edmonton wishes they had it so good.

It's not on top of the Post Office. Just next to it. That is possible, unless Lincoln tunnel commuters would oppose.
