So we have goalies for MTL and HAM.

We have a gritty winger who can skate and score.

We still need a bottom line big gritty forward OR a big, gritty top-six D-man l

+

(maybe) a spare d-man with NHL experience (I could live with Mara or Sopel).

Cheaper than Sanford and MacIntyre were, possibly gives Delmas a little more room to develop in tandem, thus. Perhaps. Good to have somebody experienced onboard again, anyway.

Okay signing. Still can’t believe we didn’t go with McIntyre who clearly was a reason why the Dogs did so well. But Lawson fits a profile of an AHL goalie who did well in the past and has “some” NHL experience as bad as it looked…but he’s more experience than McIntyre in that regard I guess….But while most teams are in bad shape if your #1 goalie gets hurt, if Price goes, we have a tandem of Budaj-Lawson….Still believe we could have done better than that on both fronts…but it’s not awful either.

Goes to show you that things aren't always so black and white. There are soooooooooooo many things that go on behind the scenes that we'll never know.

In this case, the player's emotions were revealed, but this isn't always the case.

I agree that it's not as bad as it could be (is Budaj really that much worse than Jose Theodore or Mike Smith?), but I'm not sure how much better they could have done under the circumstances. Their choice of UFA backups was probably very limited, given that there aren't too many guys who are both good enough to fill in for extended periods of time if there's an injury and willing to watch from the bench if Price starts 65-70 games again. Ray Emery, for instance, may well end up being a bargain for whoever signs him if he plays anything like he did last year with the Ducks, but I doubt that he would have ever signed with Montreal.

Obviously, drafting a goaltender early won't be a priority for some time <knocks on wood>, but organisational depth in goal needs to be addressed at some point.

I'm fine with him and Delmas in Hamilton, but still surprised Timmins haven't draft a big goalie this year. Fear of Missiaen curse ?

Great in the AHL, awful in the NHL.

Nice signing for Hamilton. A little upset the Habs didn't opt for McIntyre, but I can live with a Delmas-Lawson duo.

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. At first I wondered where I had heard that name before, and then I searched ep for him and was like "aaaah, THAT guy". Guy seems to have decent enough tools. Wouldn't be surprised if he has already hit his prime/peak (his stats make it look like he's getting "worse", but he's actually as close to "developed" as he'll ever be), which isn't a bad thing, as long as he's in the AHL facing that level of competition. I think he joins Schultz on the "will never crack an NHL lineup" list, although he becomes the organization's 3rd goalie, so he could be the default injury reserve.

Definitely. Should be interesting to see how they make out. They're in a pretty decent situation to look good, behind what should be a pretty competitive Bulldogs roster.

So Sanfort left to be a backup goalie, so did McIntyre... well, can't really hold it against them.
McIntyre already had a shot in the NHL didn't he ? With the Ducks I believe ?

You're thinking of Curtis Mcelhinney.

McIntyre was great for us, but this guy has great stats in the AHL, should be fine on the Dogs.

I have 45, so does Habsprospects.

Hmm... interesting, because I count 38 without Laraque, plus Lawson, plus possibly Gorges, White, Carle, Russell, and St.Denis. I think that makes 44. Wonder who we're missing. Can you see anyone whose contract is missing from capgeek?

He's a really good AHL goalie. He's also the Isles tender who flipped his **** after losing in the shootout. Good for the 'Dogs.
