(If anyone still has an interest in keeping this discussion going.)
With the exact same plays by Campbell and Niemi, I would expect Carter to make that shot more than 50% of the time. That's my inexpert expectation, given the amount of open net and that I believe the play was more a result of Carter's poor execution on the shot -- not that he "choked" or anything -- than on Campbell's stick or, even less, a great save by Niemi. Of the three, Niemi factors in the least, IMO. He lunged forward off balance to make himself as big a target as possible, and it hit him near the mask.
Anyway, let's put this corpse back in its plot and rebury it.
Carter actually got good leverage on the shot. If you look at it, the puck is not in the ideal position to fire it. Just happened to catch Niemi, which was a bit lucky for him and a bit unlucky for us. Niemi made a GREAT effort play to get back in position to make a save, and that should not e taken from him.
That is not, for example, a save Leighton ever makes with his poor lateral recovery.
I don't see how this is the big move the Philadelphia media was discussing... why don't we leave what happened in the past in the past.. nothing we can do to change briere and carters attempts there. We should talk about who the flyers should try to acquire to make this a better team. cuz its looking more and more that stamkos isn't leaving tampa, what player should the flyers target for trade? Bogo?
