It's very thoughtful of Stamkos to take such a term that will take him to UFA. Sacrificing a few years of his career to stay in Tampa, letting the Leafs stock the shelf with the picks they wont have to give up and coming home as a free agent.

That would take him THROUGH a year of UFA. Which would be odd that he would give that up considering he wants out of TB so badly.

As for Stammer, I knew from the start that there was zero chance of him coming here. Pretty sure most Leaf fans were just having fun with the 0.0000000000001% chance. And anything can happen once he becomes a UFA (though, I doubt that as well)
Gives the Lightning 5 years to judge how good a player he really is, and they can negotiate a new contract or trade him before his contract is up (if they deem him expendable) unless he has a NMC or NTC. That and after the 5 years both Marty and Malone's contracts are up and gives them more money.

Seriously that sucks if it's true, he's going to his first(or 2nd?)elgible year of being unrestricted, of course he can sign before he hits ufa, but that guy is gonna make so much ****ing money being a 26 year old superstar if he makes it to ufa. I'd be shocked if he didn't get a $100 million contract then.
