We better re-sign him. I haven't renew my tickets just yet (not for this reason really), but Poile better show some commitment to one of the few guys on this team that wants to score and can.

just listening to 104.5 about an hour ago, they were talking the Preds summer with Jim Wyatt (I think). His prediction is that SK will get a 2 year deal at 1.5 per... I think we could all happily accept that one.

If he's declared a UFA, you can double that 1.5 per.

Your right he can't even evaluate the Titans and he's evaluating the Preds ...taking it with a grain of nothing.

Tyler Bozak just got 2 years 1.5 million apiece. SK is going to be higher than that, but lower than Macarthurs 2 year 3.25 million apiece.

I would agree. The way things have gone so far this offseason, I'm leaning towards 2 years around $5 mil. If he had two 50 point season under his belt, he could demand a lot higher.

Are you always comparing Leafs' contracts?

I could see him getting something similar to MacArthur's contract but like you said, a little cheaper. Like MacArthur, SK had this great breakout year, but expectations should be tempered. Most of the time you can't win when it comes to salary AND term aswell. So I could see something along the lines of 2 years at 3mil.

I doubt SK74 happily accepts that one. He deserves atleast a 3 year at 3per, imo. That what Hornqvist got(something around there) and SK has more talent than him. I don't like 2 year deals. I prefer 3 at the minimum.

I mentioned the most recent Leaf contracts because both players were RFA. They would be SK's comparables in a case.

It's not talent that counts. It's performance.

I must've forgot that being the leading scorer on an offense starved team was a lack of performance.

Who didn't score a goal in playoffs...that's your leading goal scorer

His goals got us to the playoffs. It's not his fault he is surround with less talented individuals.

You make a decent point...but at the same time you open up the door that he could be a detriment to us in the playoffs.

If he had another strong season at some point in the NHL, I would agree that the payday would have to be big...but at this point he's just a flash in the pan.

Say he signs a 2 year deal....and he has 45 points and 55 points in those two seasons (any order)....THEN he would be due for the big bucks.

Remember, leading goal scorer for Nashville is generally a second liner elsewhere, as tough as that may be to swallow.

That's the problem when you sign a 1 year deal. If the player has a big year, he gets paid. Same thing happened with Hornqvist. 2 goals one year, 30 the next. Then he got paid. Just the way it is. No way SK74 signs another 1 year deal to see if it was a fluke. He deserves to be paid atleast 2.5 mil per year, imo more.

Agreed. This is why "contract years" are so important to a player. If he gets less than $3 per, I'd consider it a steal (especially after the pay from this latest free agent crop).

So my question is this, since they are going to an arbiter to figure out if the QO's were actually done correctly, why did SK elect for salary arbitration with the club? It seems a bit of a contradiction when all is said and done. Maybe he did in case the QO's were good and he could still get more money or to UFA status if the arbitrator rules in his favor and the Preds decide he isn't worth the money.

SK and his agent, like Poile, have to operate under the scenario that he is still an RFA. If the arbiter rules in our favor, his scheduled contract arbitration will go on as planned (unless we sign him ahead of that, which I think is likely). If the arbiter rules in the NHLPA's favor, SK becomes a UFA and his arbitration is thus cancelled.

Well the less talented individuals scored in the playoffs. If he's more talented then why didn't he score....I can understand if he only scored twice in 12 games but no goals. I could understand if he didn't score just against Vancouver a lot of our players didn't score against them. But the Duck didn't have the best D and it showed and he didn't score. Is he just a regular season fluke? Hornqvist went from 30 goals to 21 will SK score 23 goals again?

Too bad it's a year, but the $$ is great.

It is good to keep him motivated with the short time though...

If accurate, this is perhaps a little inflated, but ultimately, in the crazy, grab bag contracts we have seen this season, I think it is a good fit in Nashville's budget.

He'll still be an RFA next year. I love it.

Poile is a miracle worker. Now fire whoever got us into this mess in the first place.
