Sure, but how much of it is actual rumors and how much is speculation. How many times does speculation get passed on as "insider information".

A couple of years ago I made guesses at to where UFAs would go and got like 6 right...doesn't mean I had insider info.

When you link that many players to the habs, more often than not, it's mostly speculation and guess work that actual information from within the organization.

Like I said, if they had real info, they'd also be able to call the minor signings and trades, but has never once happened...actually it happened once, Mike Boone called the signing moments before it happened.

Anyone of us can open a website and call ourselves insiders and get as much right as these other boys do.

The whole point of dealing Weber would be to unclog the glut on D, since both him and Emelin can't stay in the pressbox, and get someone who's going to be ready to step in in the near future (Moore, who Timmins was exceptionally high on IIRC).

Then we turn around and sign a UFA Dman (I'm thinking McCabe, but Hannan, O'Brien could do decently I suppose).

That way, one of Spacek or McCabe is sitting each night (or Emelin if he blows), in case of injuries we have a spare guy AND Moore who could possibly fill-in over short periods.

I'm a genius.
Weber has a future with this team, Spacek doesn't. Losing a guy that can play for a long time instead of holding on to a guy that will only be here for 1 more year would be a dumb move IMO

it's not that I don't like the thread, I was just thinking about what is actually being suggested by these insiders and realized that we have been linked to a crap load of players and trades.

trade Weber and keep Spacek ? I see ZERO reason to do it...

-Spacek is probably playing the last year of his last NHL contract
-Spacek is the one making close to 4M

You're getting a lot more out of Weber than Spacek in the trade (Moore vs. marginal assets).

It's not like Moore is some scrub. Big, fast skating Dman with offensive upside.

Weber's situation is problematic at the moment. He's not going to get minutes over the current top 4, and we've got another young defenseman that brings something different to the D-corps.

Weber is a good player, the thought process is that it's better for him, for the team now and builds up our future blueline at the same time, giving us a guy a little behind in development, but that has plenty of potential.

As I said, it's not trading Weber for garbage. I'm talking about a pretty good asset in Moore.

Moore = 3rd liner AT BEST... how's that a "pretty good asset" ?

Columbus / Mtl possible deals

Which F fitting the Habs needs would Columbus be willing to part with for a young D like Weber? While it seems Umberger would be ideal, Vermette also may fit.

What would the Habs need to offer to get a Brassard or Voracek? Is it conceivable they put Nathan Beaulieu AND Weber on the table for a Brassard, with also a Jarred Boll returned for 4th line toughness?

Or, possibly just Spacek & the 2012 5th returned for Boll?

????

John Moore, 1st round draft pick in 2009.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/john_moore

Had a rough first year in the pros, but he's going to be a pretty good player.

Boll is the fan favourite in Columbus. Do you really think they will trade him for Spacek ?

no where did you specify in that post (few posts back maybe, that's why full names are written usually) wich Moore you were talking about...

besides, why would CBJ trade their 2009 1st pick, who also happen to be a D, for Weber ? both salary arent much and from a CBJ perspective their 2009 1st rounder probably has more value that Weber...

Good! I'm glad that Arnott wasn't the BIG forward that Renaud Lavoir was referring to.

1) They want someone playing D on their team.

2) Weber brings a lot of what they need (puck movement, pp ability).

3) Weber is a pretty good young D.

4) You don't get Weber with a mid-round pick.

Weber is well-worth a mid-to-late first round pick at the moment.

Weber is well-worth a mid-to-late first round pick at the moment. -> that we'll use to draft a D who'll take 3/4 years to be at Weber's level ?
Voila.

PK isn't a stay at home dman, maybe you would prefer Gorges, fits that much more
