P.S. I know this is sensationalist, but it adds hilarity to it all.

Ok, this guy can't even follow his own premise. So the Kings are "losers" for signing Gagne but the Avs are winners for TRADING for Varlamov?

OK, first of all, it’s ridiculous to already make the assumption the Avalanche lost the trade with the Capitals.
Trade? Hmm.. I thought he was talking about free agency because you know the Kings made a pretty big trade which of course went unnoticed in his article.
THN makes no sense. Also we didn't lose out on Richards. HE DID NOT WANT TO PLAY ON THE WEST COAST. He wanted to be a Ranger.
We also lose 13 million next year and will still have some cap space come the deadline if we want to make big moves. We have pieces like Stoll or Penner who would be easily tradable at the deadline.
Also they picked Sabres as losers? They got much better.

That Leino contract is cringe worthy. The guy hasn't even scored 20 goals at 27 y/o. Yeah he had 19 last year but 19 =/= 20 and he had one hell of a supporting cast. That is a lot of money tied up in one guy who hasn't proved a whole lot. Something tells me a buyout might be in his future.

he hasnt in the regular season but he was ace for them in the PO. while i do think he got massively overpayed, so did everyone else.

It ain't so much about the cap hit as it is the term. The guy just doesn't have a track record to warrant that. That is a real gamble in my opinion. I guess we'll see but I think they would have been better off with some of the other 20 goal guys out there like Fleischman or Cole. I guess maybe they just gotta take what they can get though?
I advent read it but if Colorado was indeed called a "winner" then the article author should be fired. The Varlamov trade was one of the worst overpayments I've ever seen.
I don't like the Gagne thing.
He scored 17 goals over the past 2 seasons in 2 different offensive systems.
I'm curious whta makes you guys think he will bounce back in a non offensive system from Murray ????
I predict 15 goals and 3,5 mill is a huge overpayment.
Not to mention for 2 years.
If i get it right everything depends on 2 left wingers bouncing back.
That's a huge gamble folks

The last time Richards and Gagne played under Stevens and Murray, they put up big numbers, career numbers in some cases. Gagne has had injury troubles, but it is undeniable that he is still an elite sniper. LA has been a sage haven for injured players, getting them back on their feet. If he can stay healthy, being reunited with Richards and a boost from either Brown or Williams should bring him back up to speed.
Ok, that thn article was awesome. First because the kings are losers for missing out on Richards, while the rangers aren't even mentioned... Presumed neutrality, for landing him. That makes a TON of sense.
Also, his first paragraph, about why he isn't including Philly or Florida, essentially says "I don't know enough about hockey to talk about to the two teams who did the most in the topic I'm about to pretend to discuss".
Acting like 3.5 is a ton of money is hilarious. That's barely more than We gave Poni and Gagne>>>>Poni, even if gagne only plays half the season.
By less, do you mean what the market will be paying at the time of their impending free agency or less than what they're making now?
I'm thinking both Mitchell and Stoll will get something very close to what they're making now from DL. Probably moreso of Mitchell than Stoll though.
More so that. Btw, I meant Stoll taking less, not sure what I was thinking. They can't afford to pay a #3C $3.6M, while Penner has to be replaced, Dewey has a new deal and JQ or JB are likely to get an extension, while the other is dealt.
But I think i'd be ok with giving Mitchell about the same as now, barring injury of course.
