I'm curious whta makes you guys think he will bounce back in a non offensive system from Murray ????
He scored 17 goals in 58 and 63 games. Perspective.

Lets see, aside from what Telos said, Williams had no probelm "bouncing back" playing under Murray's system. People claim Richards will put up poor numbers in LA because Murray's system when he put up his highest totals while playing for Murray and Stevens. Lets stop trying to connect dots that aren't there.

Murray has his issues but it is getting a little old to keep blaming Murray for player's offensive output. Kopitar put up his biggest point totals under Murray and would have had a shot a beating it last year if he didn't get hurt.

Yeah we are big losers

2010 vs 2011

1C Kopitar vs Kopitar = slight upgrade due to growth of young star
2C Stoll vs Richards = huge upgrade
3C Handzus vs Stoll = slight upgrade
4C Lewis vs Lewis = slight upgrade due to growth of young player

1 LW Penner vs Penner = growth due to familiarity with system and players
2 LW Smyth vs Gagne = no edge, but more team speed, better defensively
3 LW Poni vs Clifford = no edge, Poni had off year, Cliffy brings it, but still learning
4 LW Clifford vs TBD = loss -Cliffy midseason on was a mini beast, hard to match

1 RW Williams vs Williams = no edge, although this years version is healthy
2 RW Brown vs Brown = no edge
3 RW Simmonds vs Richardson = slight loss, even if Simmer underperformed
4 RW Westgarth vs Westgarth = even w a year of seasoning, not much upside

Defensive Core - Remains the same, Doughty not injured, JJ keeps getting better, Martinez emerging. Should be better this time around.

Goalies are studs. Quick has earned #1 status and Bernier on his way.

Now position by position we are almost better from 2010 to 2011 by way of growth of young players.

When our key losses were Ryan Smyth and Handzus who were slowing this team down and replaced by Gagne (a playoff beast) and Richards (one of the best 2 way centers in the game, we are in good shape.

I will miss Simmer of 2 years ago, but not the Simmer of last as the Simmer of last is easily replacable. Richards intensity, Cliffy's aggression, and Westgarths growth should make up for it.

Overall - The team got younger, faster, and better defensively. They added an upper echelon center with leadership characcteristics who brings it every night and can also light the lamp. They also got a proven playoff winger who plays with a bit of an edge and will either get hurt or put up points. The team is in great shape going forward, and is stronger then last years edition.

Acting like 3.5 is a ton of money is hilarious. That's barely more than We gave Poni and Gagne>>>>Poni, even if gagne only plays half the season.

Classic.
So we acquired Richards and got rid of Smyth, signed Gagne and got rid of Ponikarovsky. Cap hit barely changes in that set of transactions.

I guess we should have hung on to a Smyth who didn't like Los Angeles for his family, and a Poni who took 61 games to score 5 goals.

THEN we would have been "winners."

well.. giving Murray credit for Kopitar scoring more points every year is kinda wrong.
A monkey as coach could make a 18 year old scoring a couple more points every year until he is 26.

i even wouldn't call scoring 22 goals for a guy who is able to scro 35 bouncing back.
I would call it disaster when Williams scores under 30 goals.

Oh I see, when a player doesn't fit the supposed pattern, the coach deserves no credit and the player is performing in spite of the coach. However, when the opposite is true, it is the coaches fault. Sounds like a perfect formula!

I got an idea. How about the players are responsible for their production? We've seen players produce within the system. It isn't as dramatic as people make it seem.

The guy has never scored 35 goals in his career and only scored over 30 twice. Maybe he is able to score 35 but he never has and he isn't getting any younger. He hadn't scored over 20 goals since then until he put up 22 in 73 games last year. I'll call that a bounce back. We have a fundamental difference in opinion.

They're both gone. You guys need to take a loot at the ages of the players on the roster. A couple of guys stand out, the rest don't.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but while i like having a young team, I insist we carry at least one forward and one defensemen, preferably 2 defensemen and 3 forwards, who are in their 30s.

Mitchell isn't going anywhere. The guy's probably one of our best dman if not the best all around.

As for Stoll, the guy can still compete and is one of the best at faceoffs not to mention fast skater and best in shootouts.

I don't know why some of you guys are so hung up on age.

If not landing B. Richards means "unsuccessful" then 29 teams had an unsuccessful free agency period.
