Under the radar signings

Here are a few UFA's that we could sign for depth in Hamilton that could turn into NHL players:

D-Nigel Williams, 6'4" 226lbs, former 2nd round pick and only 23

F-Alexandre Picard 6'1" 190lbs former #8 overall pick, great speed and put up 24-22-46 in 59 AHL games last year.

F-Christian Hanson 6'4" 228lbs was a much heralded Free Agent signing, has great size and decent skill

D-Danny Syvret, skilled and has NHL experience, good depth player in case of injuries

F-Kyle Wilson 6' 200 played quite a few games with Columbus last year could help fill in for Eller, 12-12-24 in 23 AHL games, 4-7-11 in 32 NHL games

D-Kevin Montgomery 6'2" 188lbs 4-22-26 in 67 AHL games

D-Grant Lewis 6'3" 193lbs former Thrashers 2nd rounder 8-15-23 in 47 AHL games

F-Troy Bodie 6'4" 219lbs spent most of the last 3 years in the NHL

F-Jeremy Coillition 6'2" 195lbs former Islanders 2nd rounder 18-27-45 in 53 AHL games

I am very surprised about Hanson - I thought he would have been good for the Leafs, but he just couldn't put it together with them - some team will take a chance on him, not sure why we shouldn't if we have room in our contract stable.

Hanson doesn't have the skills to be a regular offensive contributor and doesn't have the tools to be a role player on a team.

But in terms of AHL depth, sure I could see him being inked to a 2-way contract to bring some bodies, especialy down the middle...

Yeah, just in case if we go down the stretch trying to nail down the playoff spot, we may need "backup" players in AHL to sign so just in case someone on the Habs squad got injured (like Pacioretty last season vs Bruins) we can call up from the AHL. I think it will help the depth of the squad though.

Interesting list. I'm not too sure about Syvret because we have so many defensemen who have that same toolbox. I would sooner sign more of a heavyweight for defensive depth. I noticed your forwards are all a fair size, too. That's probably not a bad idea given the relative lack of size in the organization
