Not so long ago, there were way more prospects....you had the chance to see way more scrimmages...and people were allowed in the stands.

Now, not only you don't have the chance to see that many scrimmages, but you can't get in so you have to watch behind a glass and now they added a new difficulty for the very first time ever....NOTHING ON THE WEEKEND. You have no idea how frustrated I am. I mean, you go on the Habs site, and aside from the first day....do you see somewhere the days and the hours that those practices are scheduled at? Look at other teams websites and tell me who seems to take care of their fans....And it's not only the team....how about the journalists? Do you follow Twitter? Do you see what kluedeke29 is doing as we speak? Who else does that here? IT MAKES NO FREAKIN SENSE that a city that is suppose to be that crazy about hockey is getting so little coverage and exposure....

It's the summer schedule at work and I have Friday afternoon off so we'll see what I'll do. Though I have to sell my car and go to the SAAQ and have to comeback home with my wife so don't know how much time it will take me....so chances are I won't be able to make it....but like I said, we will see.
That's a lot of alcohol

I was looking for some comments from them but came up empty handed.
Instead, I found a short interview with Nygren on being drafted by the Habs:

Quote:
- I had spoken to nine, ten teams and realized that there was a chance of getting drafted. I thought it would be in the sixth or seventh round. Not in the middle of the fourth. It's wonderful, he says.

Classic Montreal see great potential in the kid from Värmland.

- He is 21 years and played on the first power-play waves in one of the best teams in Europe at such a young age. Our scout in Europe think he can quite quickly make the transition to the North American game in the coming years, says Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier to the Montreal Gazette.

That it was Montreal who elected him rejoiced Magnus Nygren a little extra.

- A cool and traditional club that I know has a fantastic organization. When I have sat up all night and watched the games I have seen what great fans they have.

The club made contact with him during the weekend.

- They want to have me in a week at a training camp where I will meet with management. They seemed very interested and excited by what they saw. I actually had not talked to them myself before, but they had chosen a different approach and talked to teammates here in Färjestad about me instead.

And FBK (Färjestad) will be "Nyggas" club this winter.

- I am fully set to play in Farjestad at least another year. Then there's Montreal who decide and I will obviously listen to what they say, but I so not feel ready to head there yet.

Maybe the number of players there is not that relevent.

This is how I understand it.

That's exactly what it's all about. It was nice for us fans when they used to have it more accessible to the public but I understand the Habs position that this camp is about the professional education of the prospects and not about the fans. That's fair.

They also held camp many years back, at the Martin Lapointe arena, in Ville St. Pierre. I remember finishing a game with the city team and going to see who was on after us. I was surprised when I saw a whole bunch of big bodies on the ice, wearing Habs practice jerseys and doing sick skating drills.

That's interesting, thanks for posting. So it sounds like he won't be coming over this year but perhaps the following year. Would have liked to see him come over this year since the Dogs could be a little thin on D depending on how things shake out but a full year in the SEL should be good for him.

Also thought it was interesting when he said that the Habs didn't speak to him but spoke to his teammates about him. I guess that means they spoke to former Hamilton Bulldog Mikael Johansson.

You're welcome!

Well, he hasn't played a full season in the SEL yet so I would guess another season will only do him good. If he keeps it up he should have a shot at the national team in some of the EHT games.

Yes, Mikael Johansson is one obvious source but I've got a feeling Färjestad is pretty well connected with a lot of NHL clubs. Hakan Loob (Flames) is their president, Thomas Rundqvist played briefly for the Habs in the 80's is their general manager. B-A Gustavsson (Caps) and Mats Naslund played with FBK and seems to have some sort of connection to the club, although not officially. Souray and Chara played there during the lock-out and so on. I believe the Habs scouted Nygren through a lot of sources.

And on his nickname!
Well, I guess you pronounce it like "Naj'green" which obviously makes Nygge awfully close to the N word.
In swedish however, the Y is pronounced more like in Kenny, no hint of "aj".

Very few that have top 3 potential though....Beaulieu, maybe Bennett, maybe Tinordi but more likely to be a bottom 3 guy who plays a Gill type of role.

Don't get too excited. From my smattering of knowledge about Swedish, it's pronounced NEE-gah. (The Y is aways pronounced that way, and the double G in gg is necessary because otherwise it would be pronounced NEE-ya).
