This is definitely good to hear. Didn't we basically do the same thing with Fontaine?

4th in scoring for UMD as a Freshmen last year behind the Connellys and Fontaine isn't too shabby. This would be a nice continuation of Fletcher's good track record of picking up promising college UFA's.

Nice addition.
He wasn't on their original roster list.
Either a late addition or he had not confirmed.

here is the full schedule

http://wild.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=567974

We've done it with a few local collegiate guys like Fontaine and Matt Read. Sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't.

There are public scrimmages at the X on the 16th and 17th at 11 AM. Definitely going to try to make it out there for it.

I will too. Last year was a blast. Going to be able to bring my kid this time!

PS if you hear a kid going "daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey daddy hockey" at the scrimmage, that's mine.

I'll be there.

Probably in Gopher's ear all day about how a combination of what's on the ice out there could probably take the Wild of a season ago...

Seriously, this is a pretty impressive list when you look at the players who were on the same list just two years ago.

They're pretty confident Cuma's knee is fully healed? Thought it would take much longer but I suppose he's used to it... rehabbing that is

He'll be at camp, but he's not going to be skating/playing.

If we've learned anything it's that Cuma should stay far far away from the Xcel Energy Center ice. Unfortunately the Wild do play there 41 times a year...

Flahr just had to bring a Princeton guy

Based on what happened last year with Caron/Jobke, we'll probably see a couple signings this year as well. Most of the NCAA guys will be going back to school though. With Lofquist getting a game with Houston he's probably got the inside track, though he has to turn pro this year. Fredheim may have played the season for Houston, but he didn't show them enough for the Wild to sign him in 66 games he's unlikely to get one at this camp.

JT Brown and Jack Connolly are my boys. Jacks really small but man hes got skills. And JT is so fast. I used to play against him in highschool.

Honestly, as small as he is, I'm really intrigued to see what Genoway can do.

I'm actually really curious how the divisions work...

one of my skating tutors just tried out and was accepted to a junior B team for the USNTDP. He ended up turning it down because he didn't want to leave college for the two year commitment.

He doesn't play for a big school, but he does play on his college team. I think he said it was Division 2?

If he wants to eventually try to get into a try out situation like this, what should his path be? I've watched him play and he's probably at NCAA speed.

I sort of want to look out for this kid considering he was the one that put me on the path of maybe being a "pusher" for a sled hockey team, once i get comfortable with my skating.

It's basically determined by the amount of students enrolled in the school. I believe, however, if the team doesn't have a strong hockey program they can opt out into a smaller division. They would have to do poorly for a few years to do so, then they can't lite the world on fire in the lower division. Basically it's really hard to move into a higher/lower division.

For the NCAA (varsity hockey)
D1 - your major universities and hockey-only programs
D2 - does not exist outside of six colleges in the NE
D3 - your St. Thomas and other small schools which don't give scholarships

There are a few exceptions (i.e. Colorado College is a D3 school in every other sport and D1 in hockey) but for the most part that's how it rolls. The ACHA (club hockey) is different with 3 separate divisions. Universities can have both a club and varsity team (I know the U has that) and D2 is the largest division. As for the quality of play, some D1 ACHA teams are as good or better than NCAA D3 schools.

Also pretty intrigued to see Makowski from Denver.

He was a freshman defenseman last season and he's got a bit of offensive flair to his game. Must be contemplating signing a professional deal after the season. He'd be a solid add, in my opinion, given that he improves a bit on his season last year.

I totally missed his name the first time I saw the list. I'm really excited he's getting an invite. I saw his name come up quite a bit last year while following Zucker and he put up some pretty respectable numbers as a freshman. Kid has decent size too at 6'0 205 lbs. It would be very cool to see us sign him and Brown after next season.
