WOW thats a discount i thought he'd get at least 2.5. Good Luck with him, he'll be a crowd favorite, and will be interesting to see when the Kings come to Philly in the middle of October
He's coming off a 30 point season... This is about what was expected if not more.

I had him at 1.5 but that was before all these crazy contracts were given out this summer. There were some serious overpayments going on, granted those were mostly given to ufa's and not rfa's, but still. Even teams who re-signed their ufa's went a little crazy, Andy Greene and Jonathan Ericsson are not 3M dollar defenders.

It does however quickly make Carle look like a 3.00m defender.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,352,262; BONUSES: $3,815,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $947,738
Something like this as the opening roster? Lappy will be on IR of course.
If we don't have any intention to save any cap space, send Lappy to LTIR and replace Wellwood with someone making up to 2.5M
Btw, I think the max roster is 23 healthy players.
EDIT: I think I accidentally skipped over Jagr's contract.
Ah, the dreaded Pittsburgh blindspot! Nonetheless, I really like that, even with carrying 23 men on the roster (including Laperriere), Paul Holmgren has room for call-ups and trading for (a bit of) salary during the season. He and Laviolette can be creative with the roster to keep Pronger and Timonen's minutes down through the first portion of the season.
What about starting the season with Walker on the roster, and playing him as much as possible for the first few months without ruining the team: bump up his minutes during blowouts (either way), give him PK duty, etc. This, of course, would mean relying more on Bryzgalov to steal some games, but I'm thinking of long-term benefit to allow Pronger and Timonen to get/stay healthy and rested for the playoffs. When he really starts becoming a liability, send him to Adirondack.
They can do the same with Lilja, and/or AHL callups who aren't waiver risks.

I want to see if Bartulis or Gustafsson can claim that 6th spot. If they don't completely fall off the chart in camp give one of them the chance to establish himself.
Lilja is a 35+ contract, he'll count against the cap even if he is in the AHL (unless somehow some other team would pick him up on waivers...)
How on earth does Schenn make that much money? How many NHL games has he played?
It's an ELC with close to the max in bonuses. A lot of top picks have similar contracts. Even Tyler Bozak had a contract that was worth 3.75 million a season when you included potential bonuses (as Burke gave him the max in potential bonuses he could to lure him to TO, doubt he hit many of them though with his play).
Schenn's actual salary is only 900K, with 2.115 million in potential bonuses this season. However because it is the last year of the CBA, bonuses count against the cap as it is impossible to count any acheived bonus against next years cap (as there is currently no CBA next year).
Right about where I thought he'd sign for. Its looking more and more like this is our roster for the season and if we put lappy on the LTIR we will have about 3M in capspace for deadline deals and tweaks.
