given the potential these kids are supposed to have, there are spots to be won on this team.
There's a spot to be won, and its where you have Walker.

Pretty much.

A) We should not waste a kid as the 7th.

B) Pronger, Timonen, Meszaros, Coburn, and Carle are not getting beaten out by a prospect.

Walker vs. Lilja vs. Bartulis vs. Gustafsson vs. Marshall

Lilja's contract is a 35+ contract. He'll be on the NHL roster next year, probably as the 7th dman.

Oh I agree, but I'm talking about competition for the 6th.

i see a dedicated 6 spot for a stay at home guy and the "callup" spot whether holmgren carries 8 d.

i see it as marshall vs walker vs bart for the 6 and gus vs the leftovers for the 8. lilja is the cone these guys gotta skate around to make the cut as more then an injury callup which isnt really much of an obstacle, but isnt much of an option for walker or bartulis.

I don't see it that way at all. I see Lavi wanting to make the best possible pairings to help his team win. I don't necessarily think he cares about having that "shut-down" guy resting on the bottom of the 6-man unit.

I believe (granted this is an early belief) that Gus is the best of the group moving forward. He can also theoretically play Laviolette's system better the other defensemen of that group.

Also, is it necessary to have a shut-down blueliner paired with Meszazros on the bottom pairing? I think you want to use that depth pairing as more of a weapon than a failsafe.

I see it being a battle of Walker vs. Lilja vs. Bartulis vs. Gustafsson vs. Marshall for the 6th.

Then if Lilja doesn't win the 6th he becomes the 7th. If he wins the 6th then it's a battle between Walker and Bartulis for the 7th if we don't carry 8.

with pronger coming off back surgery i think the injury callup is for his spot. miracles of modern medicine and all that but carle does need a stay at home guy to cover him a lil bit. i was very unimpressed with the mesz carle paring whenever i saw it last year.

so i guess it would more properly look like

timo coburn
(pronger) gus? meszaros
carle walker\lilja\bart\marshall

you want to give a young guy as much consistency as possible be it minutes or a set role or set partner.

So I still have the same question about Bartulis. If he's no longer in the organizational top 7 (and assuming they don't carry 8 defensemen against the cap with the big club), will he get waived? Is there a good chance that anyone would claim him?

I don't want to see a Carle-Lilja pairing. I think Carle needs someone a bit more mobile (which Pronger is despite his seemingly slow skating), and also someone more at ease with the puck on his stick. I think Lilja might even be worse than Walker here.

Also, lilja-carle would be a horrendous defensive pairing.

They are veterans when being compared to a bunch of draftees and free agents that have never played in a pro league before.

I don't care how good a prospect you are, it's a big jump to having played a full season in the AHL.

A good read on Read. Sounds similar to how Testwuide was pumped up last year if you ask me.

Does anyone who has gone to the camp thus far know if they are signing autographs after the scrimmage tomorrow and what items are allowed to be brought in to sign? I'd like to bring one of my sticks to have signed.

Also, do they sign before the practice starts or after the scrimmage?

Thanks

My money is on Black. . . they are STACKED. Although Orange has the better D and all the grinders and heavy hitters.

Black has a better offense and goalie while orange has a better defense. I think black will take it.

It is kinda sad that the official Flyers site roster for the game has "Testwinde" on it... Should be able to get the names right for their own prospects.
