The Flyers have also made two other signings- one official and one pending. They have signed prospect Tye McGinn to an entry level deal as well as veteran AHL goaltender Jason Bacashihua. McGinn had an excellent season with the Gatineau Olympiques, but much like fellow prospect Jason Akeson, he was a 20 year old playing among 16-18 year olds. He needs a season or two with the Phantoms before being ready to make the big club.

As for Bacashihua, the signing hasn’t been officially announced by the Flyers yet. I imagine this has to do with the fact that they still have Leighton and Johan Backlund on the books. I wouldn’t be surprised if one (or both) of them was moved in the next few days.

I've been wondering about that. He might just be a 3rd goalie behind Leighton and Backlund though, but I doubt it. I think Backlund is probably done.

Maybe Washington feel they owe something to the hockey gods and takes one of our AHL goalies off our hands? Please?

It's not a big deal for the Flyers, we can carry three AHL goalies, It might be a problem for the three goalies though. According to Bacashihua's wikipedia page he was the third goalie behind Hotlby and Neuvirth for the Hershey Bears in 09-10. He played the same number of games as Neuvirth in the regular season, but didn't play at all in the playoffs. So carrying three goalies has happened before. I think a number of AHL teams for at least small portions of the season have more than 2 goalies available.

Hershey 09-10 individual player stats-

I hope so. We should not waste a spot on someone like him.
He clearly couldn't translate his game here and he'll never be called up.

There have been rumours about him being loaned to Europe for a while now. I'm not aware of any official offers though.

IMO, he did translate his game here -- he just isn't an NHL caliber goaltender. He's an above-average Elitserien goalie, but was not one of the top 2-3 when he was there and he was an iffy choice as a national team pick. His first AHL season, he was decent but still marginal at best as a potential NHL goalie.

Nice guy, though, and he works hard.

Are you still working on that sun-seeking rocket on which we could put Leighton, Beef? If not, perhaps we could purchase the Atlantis space shuttle after it returns from its last journey.
