On the other hand, Drury could have a real good bounce back year. He's due for a double digit goal season. He's money with the ever popular "timely goal". Plays center and wing. A vet and a leader....

And the downside is ? Not enough room for a prospect?

To me, the downside would be depending on the money we have to pay to get him. Would he really sign for super cheaper after his last salary? Not sure. Also, as you pointed out, there would be no room for a young kid to come up and prove themselves. Also, do we want to add another injury prone player to our team?

Still a rumor but Drury is coming to LA. Could be for a physical, could be a done deal, could be taking his kids on vacation but stay posted kiddies.

I heard a rumor that Drury is coming to LA from a legit source. I wouldn't say anything if I didn't trust it.

Is Kovalchuk with him?

League min + bonuses on a 1 year deal is all Dean should offer.

Drury, for the right price (as low as possible) would be a huge boon to our fourth line. While his scoring days are over, he plays solid defense and has the wiles of a leader. On our fourth line, with Parse/Richardson and Lewis/Westgarth he could be a definite boon.

As with everything I guess it depends on the price. If we've cap space to burn a million or so for a vet on the 4th line isn't to bad.

I'd thought the guy could barely move....

That'd be rough because you need at least one knee to skate.

It appears as if the Rangers will be unable to buy out the final season of Chris Drury's contract because of a degenerative condition in the captain's left knee that apparently will render him medically unable to play next season, The Post has learned.

This, of course, is bad news for Drury, who more than likely will be facing the end of a distinguished 12-year NHL career at the age of 35, which he turns in August.

He later agreed to a buy out, but I don't know if his medical condition actually changed.

If Drury can play, he wouldn't be a terrible choice for the fourth line. That would give us a solid bottom six.

Clifford-Stoll-Richardson
Parse-Drury-Lewis

That would give us:

Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Gagne-Richards-Brown
Clifford-Stoll-Richardson
Parse-Drury-Lewis

Mitchell-Doughty
Johnson-Scuderi
Martinez-Greene

Quick
Bernier

I don't know that Drury would be our best option, though.

I think that might be the next running gag around here.

Dude, Drury is done, and why would they add him, Scott Parse is a similar player with better knees and makes a whole lot less.

Well to be fair, Drury actually has had a career: NHL - 10-12 yrs(?), All star appearances at all levels, Olympic Medals, Stanley Cup, been a Captain, multiple 20+ goal seasons....

Mr. Parse is still helping doctors and surgeons learn how to repair hockey players.

I'm in as long as there's room for a rookie .... at this point for the franchise, it's important to show the prospects that a place in the room is out there for them, year by year. Keeps them excited and focused.

Brooks tends to jump to conclusions far sooner than I'd like, using facts sprinkled ever so slightly with his own opinions and speculation. Take the Richards saga, Brooks was guaranteeing at various times throughout June and early July that he was and was not headed to New York. In this case, I'm not entirely convinced that Drury's out of action next year, that's all.
